1 (Ein Maskil1; von AsaphAsaph.) GottGott, warum hast du verworfen für immer, raucht dein ZornZorn gegen die HerdeHerde deiner Weide?1 Maschil of Asaph. O God, why hast thou cast us off for ever? why doth thine anger smoke against the sheep of thy pasture?1
2 Gedenke deiner GemeindeGemeinde, die du erworben hast damals, erlöst als dein Erbteil2 – des BergesBerges ZionZion, auf dem du gewohnt hast! 2 Remember thy congregation, which thou hast purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt.2
3 Erhebe deine Tritte zu den immerwährenden Trümmern! Alles im HeiligtumHeiligtum hat der Feind zerstört.3 Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual desolations; even all that the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary.
4 Es brüllen deine WidersacherWidersacher inmitten deiner Versammlungsstätte; sie haben ihre Zeichen3 als Zeichen4 gesetzt.4 Thine enemies roar in the midst of thy congregations; they set up their ensigns for signs.
5 Sie erscheinen5 wie einer, der die AxtAxt emporhebt im Dickicht des WaldesWaldes;5 A man was famous according as he had lifted up axes upon the thick trees.
6 und jetzt zerschlagen sie sein SchnitzwerkSchnitzwerk allzumal mit Beilen und mit Hämmern. 6 But now they break down the carved work thereof at once with axes and hammers.
7 Sie haben dein HeiligtumHeiligtum in Brand gesteckt, zu Boden entweiht die Wohnung deines NamensNamens.7 They have cast fire into thy sanctuary, they have defiled by casting down the dwelling place of thy name to the ground.3
8 Sie sprachen in ihrem Herzen: Lasst uns sie niederzwingen allesamt! – Verbrannt haben sie alle Versammlungsstätten Gottes6 im Land.8 They said in their hearts, Let us destroy them together: they have burned up all the synagogues of God in the land.4
9 Unsere ZeichenZeichen sehen wir nicht; kein ProphetProphet ist mehr da, und keiner bei uns, der weiß, bis wann.9 We see not our signs: there is no more any prophet: neither is there among us any that knoweth how long.
10 Bis wann, o GottGott, soll höhnen der Bedränger, soll der Feind deinen NamenNamen verachten immerfort?10 O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever?
11 Warum ziehst du deine Hand und deine Rechte zurück? Hervor aus deinem SchoßSchoß, mach ein Ende7!11 Why withdrawest thou thy hand, even thy right hand? pluck it out of thy bosom.
12 GottGott ist ja mein König von alters her, der Rettungen schafft inmitten des Landes8.12 For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth.
13 Du zerteiltest das MeerMeer durch deine MachtMacht, zerschelltest die Häupter der Wasserungeheuer auf den Wassern. 13 Thou didst divide the sea by thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.56
14 Du zerschmettertest die Häupter des LeviatansLeviatans, gabst ihn zur Speise dem Volk, den Bewohnern der Wüste9.14 Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.
15 Du ließest QuelleQuelle und BachBach hervorbrechen, immerfließende Ströme trocknetest du aus.15 Thou didst cleave the fountain and the flood: thou driedst up mighty rivers.7
16 Dein ist der TagTag, dein auch die NachtNacht; den Mond10 und die SonneSonne hast du bereitet.16 The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.
17 Du hast festgestellt alle Grenzen der ErdeErde; SommerSommer und WinterWinter, du hast sie gebildet.17 Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.8
18 Gedenke dessen: Der Feind hat den HERRN gehöhnt, und ein törichtes11 Volk hat deinen NamenNamen verachtet.18 Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name.
19 Gib nicht dem Raubtier hin die SeeleSeele deiner TurteltaubeTurteltaube; die Schar deiner Elenden vergiss nicht für immer! 19 O deliver not the soul of thy turtledove unto the multitude of the wicked: forget not the congregation of thy poor for ever.
20 Schaue hin auf den BundBund! Denn die finsteren Örter der ErdeErde sind voll von Wohnungen der Gewalttat.20 Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.
21 Nicht kehre beschämt zurück der Unterdrückte; lass den Elenden und Armen deinen NamenNamen loben!21 O let not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name.
22 Steh auf, o GottGott, führe deinen Rechtsstreit! Gedenke deiner Verhöhnung von den Toren12 den ganzen TagTag! 22 Arise, O God, plead thine own cause: remember how the foolish man reproacheth thee daily.
23 Vergiss nicht die Stimme deiner WidersacherWidersacher! Das Getöse derer, die sich gegen dich erheben, steigt auf beständig13.23 Forget not the voice of thine enemies: the tumult of those that rise up against thee increaseth continually.9
