1 Und das WortWort des HERRN erging an JonaJona, dem SohnSohn Amittais1, indem er sprach:1 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,1
2 Mach dich auf, geh nach NiniveNinive, der großen Stadt, und predige gegen sie; denn ihre Bosheit ist vor mich heraufgestiegen.2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
3 Aber JonaJona machte sich auf, um von dem Angesicht des HERRN weg nach TarsisTarsis2 zu fliehen; und er ging nach Japho3 hinab und fand ein SchiffSchiff, das nach TarsisTarsis fuhr; und er gab sein Fährgeld und stieg in dasselbe hinab, um mit ihnen nach TarsisTarsis zu fahren von dem Angesicht des HERRN weg. 3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
4 Da warf der HERR einen heftigen WindWind auf das MeerMeer, und es entstand ein großer Sturm auf dem MeerMeer, so dass das SchiffSchiff zu zerbrechen drohte.4 But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.23
5 Und die Seeleute fürchteten sich und schrien, jeder zu seinem GottGott; und sie warfen die Geräte, die im SchiffSchiff waren, ins MeerMeer, um sich zu erleichtern. JonaJona aber war in den unteren Schiffsraum hinabgestiegen, und hatte sich hingelegt und war in tiefen Schlaf gesunken.5 Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.
6 Und der Obersteuermann trat zu ihm hin und sprach zu ihm: Was ist mit dir, du Schläfer? Steh auf, rufe deinen GottGott an! Vielleicht wird der GottGott unser gedenken, dass wir nicht umkommen.6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.
7 Und sie sprachen einer zum anderen: Kommt und lasst uns Lose werfen, damit wir erfahren, um wessentwillen dieses Unglück uns trifft. Und sie warfen Lose, und das Los fiel auf JonaJona.7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.
8 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Tu uns doch kund, um wessentwillen dieses Unglück uns trifft! Was ist dein Geschäft, und woher kommst du? Was ist dein Land, und von welchem Volk bist du? 8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?
9 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Ich bin ein HebräerHebräer; und ich fürchte den HERRN, den GottGott des HimmelsHimmels, der das MeerMeer und das Trockene gemacht hat.9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.4
10 Da fürchteten sich die Männer mit großer Furcht und sprachen zu ihm: Was hast du da getan! Denn die Männer wussten, dass er von dem Angesicht des HERRN wegfloh; denn er hatte es ihnen mitgeteilt. 10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.5
11 Und sie sprachen zu ihm: Was sollen wir dir tun, damit das MeerMeer sich gegen uns beruhige? Denn das MeerMeer wurde immer stürmischer4. 11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.67
12 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Nehmt mich und werft mich ins MeerMeer, so wird das MeerMeer sich gegen euch beruhigen; denn ich weiß, dass dieser große Sturm um meinetwillen über euch gekommen ist. 12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.
13 Und die Männer ruderten hart5, um das SchiffSchiff ans Land zurückzuführen; aber sie vermochten es nicht, weil das MeerMeer immer stürmischer gegen sie wurde. 13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.89
14 Da riefen sie zu dem HERRN und sprachen: Ach, HERR! Lass uns doch nicht umkommen um der SeeleSeele dieses MannesMannes willen, und lege nicht unschuldiges BlutBlut auf uns. Denn du, HERR, hast getan, wie es dir gefallen hat.14 Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.
15 Und sie nahmen JonaJona und warfen ihn ins MeerMeer. Da ließ das MeerMeer ab6 von seinem Wüten.15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.10
16 Und die Männer fürchteten sich vor dem HERRN mit großer Furcht, und sie schlachteten SchlachtopferSchlachtopfer und taten GelübdeGelübde dem HERRN.16 Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.11
