1 Und AbrahamAbraham war alt, wohlbetagt, und der HERR hatte AbrahamAbraham gesegnet in allem.1 And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.1
2 Und AbrahamAbraham sprach zu seinem KnechtKnecht, dem ältesten seines Hauses, der alles verwaltete, was er hatte: Lege doch deine Hand unter meine Hüfte1,2 And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:
3 und ich werde dich schwören lassen bei dem HERRN, dem GottGott des HimmelsHimmels und dem GottGott der ErdeErde, dass du meinem SohnSohn nicht eine FrauFrau nehmen wirst von den Töchtern der KanaaniterKanaaniter, in deren Mitte ich wohne;3 And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
4 sondern in mein Land und zu meiner Verwandtschaft sollst du gehen und eine FrauFrau nehmen meinem SohnSohn, dem IsaakIsaak.4 But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
5 Und der KnechtKnecht sprach zu ihm: Vielleicht wird die FrauFrau mir nicht in dieses Land folgen wollen; soll ich dann deinen SohnSohn in das Land zurückbringen, aus dem du weggezogen bist?5 And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?
6 Da sprach AbrahamAbraham zu ihm: Hüte dich, dass du meinen SohnSohn nicht dorthin zurückbringst! 6 And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.
7 Der HERR, der GottGott des HimmelsHimmels, der mich aus dem HausHaus meines VatersVaters und aus dem Land meiner Verwandtschaft2 genommen und der zu mir geredet und der mir geschworen und gesagt hat: Deinen Nachkommen will ich dieses Land geben! Der wird seinen EngelEngel vor dir hersenden, dass du meinem SohnSohn von dort eine FrauFrau nimmst. 7 The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.
8 Wenn aber die FrauFrau dir nicht folgen will, so bist du dieses meines EidesEides ledig; nur sollst du meinen SohnSohn nicht dorthin zurückbringen. 8 And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.
9 Und der KnechtKnecht legte seine Hand unter die Hüfte AbrahamsAbrahams, seines HerrnHerrn, und schwur ihm über dieser Sache. 9 And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning that matter.
10 Und der KnechtKnecht nahm zehn KameleKamele von den Kamelen seines HerrnHerrn und zog hin; und allerlei Gut seines HerrnHerrn hatte er bei sich. Und er machte sich auf und zog nach Mesopotamien3, nach der Stadt NahorsNahors. 10 And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.2
11 Und er ließ die KameleKamele draußen vor der Stadt niederknien beim Wasserbrunnen, zur Abendzeit, zur ZeitZeit, da die Schöpferinnen herauskommen.11 And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.3
12 Und er sprach: HERR, GottGott meines HerrnHerrn AbrahamAbraham, lass es mir doch heute begegnen, und erweise Güte an meinem HerrnHerrn AbrahamAbraham!12 And he said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
13 Siehe, ich stehe bei der Wasserquelle, und die Töchter der Leute der Stadt kommen heraus, um Wasser zu schöpfen.13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:
14 Möge es nun geschehen, dass das Mädchen, zu dem ich sagen werde: Neige doch deinen KrugKrug, dass ich trinke, und das sagen wird: Trinke, und auch deine KameleKamele will ich tränken, diejenige sei, die du für deinen KnechtKnecht, für IsaakIsaak, bestimmt hast; und daran werde ich erkennen, dass du Güte an meinem HerrnHerrn erwiesen hast.14 And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
15 Und es geschah, er hatte noch nicht ausgeredet, siehe, da kam Rebekka4 heraus, die dem BethuelBethuel geboren worden, dem SohnSohn der MilkaMilka, der FrauFrau NahorsNahors, des BrudersBruders AbrahamsAbrahams, mit ihrem KrugKrug auf ihrer SchulterSchulter.15 And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham's brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
16 Und das Mädchen war sehr schön von Ansehen, eine JungfrauJungfrau, und kein MannMann hatte sie erkannt; und sie stieg zur QuelleQuelle hinab und füllte ihren KrugKrug und stieg wieder herauf.16 And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.4
17 Und der KnechtKnecht lief ihr entgegen und sprach: Lass mich doch ein wenig Wasser aus deinem KrugKrug schlürfen.17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.
18 Und sie sprach: Trinke, mein HerrHerr. Und sie ließ ihren KrugKrug schnell auf ihre Hand herab und gab ihm zu trinken.18 And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.
19 Und als sie ihm genug zu trinken gegeben hatte, sprach sie: Ich will auch für deine KameleKamele schöpfen, bis sie genug getrunken haben.19 And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.
20 Und sie eilte und goss ihren KrugKrug aus in die Tränke und lief nochmals zum BrunnenBrunnen, um zu schöpfen; und sie schöpfte für alle seine KameleKamele. 20 And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
21 Und der MannMann sah ihr staunend zu und schwieg, um zu erkennen, ob der HERR zu seiner Reise Glück gegeben habe oder nicht.21 And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.
22 Und es geschah, als die KameleKamele genug getrunken hatten, da nahm der MannMann einen goldenen Ring5, ein halber SekelSekel sein Gewicht, und zwei SpangenSpangen für ihre Arme6, 10 SekelSekel GoldGold ihr Gewicht; 22 And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;5
23 und er sprach: Wessen TochterTochter bist du? Sage es mir doch an. Ist im HausHaus deines VatersVaters Raum für uns zu herbergen? 23 And said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee: is there room in thy father's house for us to lodge in?
24 Und sie sprach zu ihm: Ich bin die TochterTochter BethuelsBethuels, des SohnesSohnes der MilkaMilka, den sie dem NahorNahor geboren hat.24 And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor.
25 Und sie sprach zu ihm: Sowohl StrohStroh als auch Futter ist bei uns in Menge, auch Raum zu herbergen. 25 She said moreover unto him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.
26 Da verneigte sich der MannMann und warf sich nieder vor dem HERRN26 And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD.
27 und sprach: Gepriesen7 sei der HERR, der GottGott meines HerrnHerrn AbrahamAbraham, der von seiner Güte und seiner WahrheitWahrheit nicht abgelassen hat gegen meinen HerrnHerrn! Mich hat der HERR geleitet auf den Weg zumERR mich geleitet zum usw.">8 HausHaus der BrüderBrüder meines HerrnHerrn. 27 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren.
28 Und das Mädchen lief und berichtete diese Dinge dem HausHaus ihrer MutterMutter.28 And the damsel ran, and told them of her mother's house these things.
29 Und RebekkaRebekka hatte einen BruderBruder, sein Name war LabanLaban; und LabanLaban lief zu dem MannMann hinaus zur QuelleQuelle.29 And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban: and Laban ran out unto the man, unto the well.
30 Und es geschah, als er den Ring sah und die SpangenSpangen an den Armen seiner Schwester, und als er die WorteWorte seiner Schwester RebekkaRebekka hörte, die sagte: So hat der MannMann zu mir geredet, da kam er zu dem MannMann; und siehe, er stand bei den Kamelen, an der QuelleQuelle. 30 And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets upon his sister's hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well.
31 Und er sprach: Komm herein, Gesegneter des HERRN! Warum stehst du draußen? Denn ich habe das HausHaus aufgeräumt, und Raum ist für die KameleKamele. 31 And he said, Come in, thou blessed of the LORD; wherefore standest thou without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.
32 Und der MannMann kam in das HausHaus; und man sattelte die KameleKamele ab und gab den Kamelen StrohStroh und Futter und Wasser, um seine Füße zu waschen und die Füße der Männer, die bei ihm waren.32 And the man came into the house: and he ungirded his camels, and gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men's feet that were with him.
33 Und es wurde ihm zu essen vorgesetzt; aber er sprach: Ich will nicht essen, bis ich meine WorteWorte geredet habe. Und er sprach: Rede!33 And there was set meat before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told mine errand. And he said, Speak on.
34 Da sprach er: Ich bin AbrahamsAbrahams KnechtKnecht;34 And he said, I am Abraham's servant.
35 und der HERR hat meinen HerrnHerrn sehr gesegnet, so dass er groß geworden ist; und er hat ihm Kleinvieh gegeben und RinderRinder, und SilberSilber und GoldGold, und KnechteKnechte und Mägde, und KameleKamele und EselEsel.35 And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses.
36 Und SaraSara, die FrauFrau meines HerrnHerrn, hat meinem HerrnHerrn einen SohnSohn geboren, nachdem sie alt geworden war; und er hat ihm alles gegeben, was er hat.36 And Sarah my master's wife bare a son to my master when she was old: and unto him hath he given all that he hath.
37 Und mein HerrHerr hat mich schwören lassen und gesagt: Du sollst meinem SohnSohn nicht eine FrauFrau nehmen von den Töchtern der KanaaniterKanaaniter, in deren Land ich wohne;37 And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:
38 sondern zu dem HausHaus meines VatersVaters und zu meinem GeschlechtGeschlecht sollst du gehen und meinem SohnSohn eine FrauFrau nehmen! 38 But thou shalt go unto my father's house, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son.
39 Und ich sprach zu meinem HerrnHerrn: Vielleicht wird die FrauFrau mir nicht folgen.39 And I said unto my master, Peradventure the woman will not follow me.
40 Da sprach er zu mir: Der HERR, vor dessen Angesicht ich gewandelt habe, wird seinen EngelEngel mit dir senden und Glück zu deiner Reise geben, dass du meinem SohnSohn eine FrauFrau nimmst aus meinem GeschlechtGeschlecht und aus dem HausHaus meines VatersVaters. 40 And he said unto me, The LORD, before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house:
41 Wenn du zu meinem GeschlechtGeschlecht kommst, dann sollst du meines EidesEides ledig sein; und wenn sie sie dir nicht geben, so bist du meines EidesEides ledig. 41 Then shalt thou be clear from this my oath, when thou comest to my kindred; and if they give not thee one, thou shalt be clear from my oath.
42 So kam ich heute zu der QuelleQuelle und sprach: HERR, GottGott meines HerrnHerrn AbrahamAbraham, wenn du doch Glück geben wolltest zu meinem Weg, auf dem ich gehe!42 And I came this day unto the well, and said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, if now thou do prosper my way which I go:
43 Siehe, ich stehe bei der Wasserquelle; möge es nun geschehen, dass die JungfrauJungfrau, die herauskommt, um zu schöpfen, und zu der ich sagen werde: Gib mir doch ein wenig Wasser aus deinem KrugKrug zu trinken!43 Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin cometh forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray thee, a little water of thy pitcher to drink;
44 und die zu mir sagen wird: Trinke du, und auch für deine KameleKamele will ich schöpfen, dass sie die FrauFrau sei, die der HERR für den SohnSohn meines HerrnHerrn bestimmt hat.44 And she say to me, Both drink thou, and I will also draw for thy camels: let the same be the woman whom the LORD hath appointed out for my master's son.
45 Ich hatte in meinem Herzen noch nicht ausgeredet, siehe, da kam RebekkaRebekka heraus mit ihrem KrugKrug auf ihrer SchulterSchulter; und sie stieg zur QuelleQuelle hinab und schöpfte. Da sprach ich zu ihr: Gib mir doch zu trinken!45 And before I had done speaking in mine heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the well, and drew water: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.
46 Und sie ließ ihren KrugKrug schnell von ihrer Schulter9 herab und sprach: Trinke, und auch deine KameleKamele will ich tränken. Und ich trank, und sie tränkte auch die KameleKamele.46 And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: so I drank, and she made the camels drink also.
47 Und ich fragte sie und sprach: Wessen TochterTochter bist du? Und sie sprach: Die TochterTochter BethuelsBethuels, des SohnesSohnes NahorsNahors, den MilkaMilka ihm geboren hat. Und ich legte den Ring an ihre Nase und die SpangenSpangen an ihre ArmeArme;47 And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor's son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the earring upon her face, and the bracelets upon her hands.
48 und ich verneigte mich und warf mich nieder vor dem HERRNHERRN; und ich pries den HERRNHERRN, den GottGott meines HerrnHerrn AbrahamAbraham, der mich den rechten Weg geleitet hat, um die TochterTochter des BrudersBruders meines HerrnHerrn für seinen SohnSohn zu nehmen.48 And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master's brother's daughter unto his son.
49 Und nun, wenn ihr Güte und TreueTreue an meinem HerrnHerrn erweisen wollt, so teil es mir mit; und wenn nicht, so teilt es mir mit, und ich werde mich zur Rechten oder zur Linken wenden.49 And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.
50 Da antworteten LabanLaban und BethuelBethuel und sprachen: Von dem HERRN ist die Sache ausgegangen; wir können dir nichts sagen, weder Böses noch Gutes.50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from the LORD: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good.
51 Siehe, RebekkaRebekka ist vor dir: Nimm sie und zieh hin; und sie sei die FrauFrau des SohnesSohnes deines HerrnHerrn, wie der HERR geredet hat.51 Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master's son's wife, as the LORD hath spoken.
52 Und es geschah, als AbrahamsAbrahams KnechtKnecht ihre WorteWorte hörte, da beugte er sich zur ErdeErde nieder vor dem HERRN.52 And it came to pass, that, when Abraham's servant heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth.
53 Und der KnechtKnecht zog hervor silbernes GeschmeideGeschmeide und goldenes GeschmeideGeschmeide und KleiderKleider und gab sie der RebekkaRebekka; und Kostbarkeiten gab er ihrem BruderBruder und ihrer MutterMutter.53 And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.6
54 Und sie aßen und tranken, er und die Männer, die bei ihm waren, und übernachteten. Und des MorgensMorgens standen sie auf, und er sprach: Entlasst mich zu meinem HerrnHerrn!54 And they did eat and drink, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away unto my master.
55 Da sprachen ihr BruderBruder und ihre MutterMutter: Lass das Mädchen einige TageTage oder zehn bei uns bleiben, danach magst du10 ziehen.55 And her brother and her mother said, Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go.7
56 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Haltet mich nicht auf, da der HERR Glück gegeben hat zu meiner Reise; entlasst mich, dass ich zu meinem HerrnHerrn ziehe!56 And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master.
57 Und sie sprachen: Lasst uns das Mädchen rufen und ihren Mund befragen.57 And they said, We will call the damsel, and enquire at her mouth.
58 Und sie riefen RebekkaRebekka und sprachen zu ihr: Willst du mit diesem MannMann gehen? Und sie antwortete: Ich will gehen.58 And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.
59 Und sie entließen ihre Schwester RebekkaRebekka mit ihrer AmmeAmme, und den KnechtKnecht AbrahamsAbrahams und seine Männer.59 And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men.
60 Und sie segneten RebekkaRebekka und sprachen zu ihr: Du, unsere Schwester, werde zu tausend mal Zehntausenden, und deine Nachkommenschaft besitze das TorTor seiner Feinde11!60 And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of millions, and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them.
61 Und RebekkaRebekka machte sich auf mit ihren Mägden, und sie bestiegen die KameleKamele und folgten dem MannMann; und der KnechtKnecht nahm RebekkaRebekka und zog hin.61 And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way.
62 IsaakIsaak aber war von einem Gang nach dem BrunnenBrunnen Lachai-Roi12 gekommen; er wohnte nämlich im Land des SüdensSüdens.62 And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelt in the south country.
63 Und IsaakIsaak ging aus, um auf dem Feld zu sinnen beim Anbruch des AbendsAbends; und er hob seine AugenAugen auf und sah: Und siehe, KameleKamele kamen. 63 And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.8
64 Und RebekkaRebekka hob ihre AugenAugen auf und sah IsaakIsaak; und sie warf sich vom KamelKamel herab und sprach zu dem KnechtKnecht: 64 And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel.
65 Wer ist der MannMann, der uns da auf dem Feld entgegenwandelt? Und der KnechtKnecht sprach: Das ist mein HerrHerr. Da nahm sie den Schleier13 und verhüllte sich. 65 For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself.
66 Und der KnechtKnecht erzählte IsaakIsaak all die Dinge, die er ausgerichtet hatte.66 And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done.
67 Und IsaakIsaak führte sie in das ZeltZelt seiner MutterMutter SaraSara, und er nahm RebekkaRebekka, und sie wurde seine FrauFrau, und er hatte sie lieb. Und IsaakIsaak tröstete sich nach dem TodTod seiner MutterMutter.67 And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.
