1 Und es geschah nach diesen Dingen, dass man dem JosephJoseph sagte: Siehe, dein VaterVater ist krank. Und er nahm seine beiden Söhne, ManasseManasse und EphraimEphraim, mit sich.1 And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.
2 Und man berichtete dem JakobJakob und sprach: Siehe, dein SohnSohn JosephJoseph kommt zu dir. Und IsraelIsrael machte sich stark und setzte sich aufs BettBett. 2 And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.
3 Und JakobJakob sprach zu JosephJoseph: Gott1, der AllmächtigeAllmächtige, erschien mir in LusLus im Land KanaanKanaan, und er segnete mich3 And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,
4 und sprach zu mir: Siehe, ich will dich fruchtbar machen und dich vermehren und dich zu einem Haufen Völker machen, und ich will dieses Land deinen Nachkommen nach dir zum ewigen Besitztum geben. 4 And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.
5 Und nun, deine beiden Söhne, die dir im Land Ägypten geboren sind, ehe ich zu dir nach Ägypten kam, sollen mein sein; EphraimEphraim und ManasseManasse sollen mein sein wie RubenRuben und SimeonSimeon.5 And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.
6 Aber dein GeschlechtGeschlecht, das du nach ihnen gezeugtgezeugt hast2, soll dein sein; nach dem NamenNamen ihrer BrüderBrüder sollen sie genannt werden in ihrem ErbteilErbteil. 6 And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.
7 Denn ich – als ich aus Paddan kam, starb RahelRahel bei mir im Land KanaanKanaan auf dem Weg, als noch eine Strecke Landes war, um nach EphratEphrat zu kommen; und ich begrub sie dort auf dem Weg nach EphratEphrat, das ist BethlehemBethlehem.7 And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Bethlehem.
8 Und IsraelIsrael sah die Söhne JosephsJosephs und sprach: Wer sind diese?8 And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who are these?
9 Und JosephJoseph sprach zu seinem VaterVater: Das sind meine Söhne, die GottGott mir hier gegeben hat. Da sprach er: Bring sie doch zu mir her, dass ich sie segne!9 And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.
10 Die AugenAugen IsraelsIsraels aber waren schwer vor Alter, er konnte nicht sehen. Und er führte sie näher zu ihm, und er küsste sie und umarmte sie.10 Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them.1
11 Und IsraelIsrael sprach zu JosephJoseph: Ich hatte nicht gedacht, dein Angesicht wiederzusehen, und siehe, GottGott hat mich sogar deine Nachkommen sehen lassen! 11 And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.
12 Und JosephJoseph führte sie von seinen Knien heraus und beugte sich auf sein Angesicht zur ErdeErde nieder. 12 And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.
13 Und JosephJoseph nahm sie beide, EphraimEphraim mit seiner Rechten, zur Linken IsraelsIsraels, und ManasseManasse mit seiner Linken, zur Rechten IsraelsIsraels, und führte sie näher zu ihm.13 And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near unto him.
14 Und IsraelIsrael streckte seine Rechte aus und legte sie auf das HauptHaupt EphraimsEphraims – er war aber der JüngereJüngere – und seine Linke auf das HauptHaupt ManassesManasses; er legte seine Hände absichtlich3 so, denn ManasseManasse war der Erstgeborene.14 And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn.
15 Und er segnete JosephJoseph und sprach: Der GottGott, vor dessen Angesicht meine VäterVäter, AbrahamAbraham und IsaakIsaak, gewandelt haben, der GottGott, der mich geweidet hat, seitdem ich bin bis auf diesen TagTag,15 And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,
16 der EngelEngel, der mich erlöst hat von allem Bösen, segne die Knaben; und in ihnen werde mein Name genannt und der Name meiner VäterVäter, AbrahamAbraham und IsaakIsaak, und sie sollen sich vermehren zu einer Menge inmitten des Landes4!16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.2
17 Und als JosephJoseph sah, dass sein VaterVater seine rechte Hand auf das HauptHaupt EphraimsEphraims legte, war es übel in seinen AugenAugen; und er fasste seines VatersVaters Hand, um sie von dem HauptHaupt EphraimsEphraims wegzutun auf das HauptHaupt ManassesManasses. 17 And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head.3
18 Und JosephJoseph sprach zu seinem VaterVater: Nicht so, mein VaterVater! Denn dieser ist der Erstgeborene; lege deine Rechte auf sein HauptHaupt.18 And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.
19 Aber sein VaterVater weigerte sich und sprach: Ich weiß es, mein SohnSohn, ich weiß es. Auch er wird zu einem Volk werden, und auch er wird groß sein; aber doch wird sein jüngerer BruderBruder größer sein als er, und seine Nachkommenschaft wird eine Fülle von NationenNationen werden.19 And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.4
20 Und er segnete sie an diesem TagTag und sprach: In dir wird IsraelIsrael segnen und sprechen: GottGott mache dich wie EphraimEphraim und wie ManasseManasse! Und er setzte EphraimEphraim vor ManasseManasse. 20 And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.
21 Und IsraelIsrael sprach zu JosephJoseph: Siehe, ich sterbe; und GottGott wird mit euch sein und euch in das Land eurer VäterVäter zurückbringen.21 And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.
22 Und ich gebe dir einen Landstrich über deine BrüderBrüder hinaus, den ich von der Hand der AmoriterAmoriter genommen habe mit meinem SchwertSchwert und mit meinem BogenBogen. 22 Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.
