1 Hört das WortWort, das der HERR zu euch redet, HausHaus IsraelIsrael!1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
2 So spricht der HERR: Lernt nicht den Weg1 der NationenNationen, und erschreckt nicht vor den ZeichenZeichen des HimmelsHimmels, weil die NationenNationen vor ihnen erschrecken.2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3 Denn die SatzungenSatzungen der Völker sind Nichtigkeit; denn HolzHolz ist es, das einer aus dem WaldWald gehauen hat, ein Werk von Künstlerhänden, mit dem Beil angefertigt.3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.1
4 Er schmückt es mit SilberSilber und mit GoldGold; mit Nägeln und mit Hämmern befestigenbefestigen sie es, dass es nicht wanke;4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
5 sie sind wie eine gedrechselte SäuleSäule und reden nicht; sie werden getragen, denn sie gehen2 nicht. Fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen; denn sie können nichts Böses tun, und Gutes zu tun steht auch nicht bei ihnen. 5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
6 Gar niemand ist dir gleich, HERR; du bist groß, und groß ist dein Name in MachtMacht. 6 Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.
7 Wer sollte dich nicht fürchten, König der NationenNationen? Denn dir gebührt es. Denn unter allen Weisen der NationenNationen und in allen ihren Königreichen ist gar niemand dir gleich, 7 Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.2
8 sondern sie sind allzumal dumm und töricht; die UnterweisungUnterweisung der Nichtigkeiten ist HolzHolz3. 8 But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.3
9 Dünngeschlagenes SilberSilber wird aus Tarsis4 gebracht und GoldGold aus UphasUphas, ein Werk des KünstlersKünstlers und der Hände des Goldschmieds; blauer und roter PurpurPurpur ist ihr GewandGewand, ein Werk von Kunstfertigen sind sie allesamt.9 Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of cunning men.
10 Aber der HERR, GottGott, ist WahrheitWahrheitERR ist Gott in Wahrheit">5; er ist der lebendige GottGott und ein ewiger König. Vor seinem Grimm erbebt die ErdeErde, und seinen ZornZorn können die NationenNationen nicht ertragen.10 But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.45
11 So sollt ihr zu ihnen sprechen: Die GötterGötter, die den HimmelHimmel und die ErdeErde nicht gemacht haben, diese werden verschwinden von der ErdeErde und unter diesem HimmelHimmel weg6.11 Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.
12 Er hat die ErdeErde gemacht7 durch seine KraftKraft, den Erdkreis festgestellt durch seine Weisheit und die HimmelHimmel ausgespannt durch seine EinsichtEinsicht.12 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.
13 Wenn er beim Schall8 des DonnersDonners Wasserrauschen am HimmelHimmel bewirkt und Dünste aufsteigen lässt vom Ende der ErdeErde, Blitze zum RegenRegen macht9 und den WindWind herausführt10 aus seinen VorratskammernVorratskammern –:13 When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.67
14 dumm wird jeder MenschMensch, ohne ErkenntnisErkenntnis; beschämt wird jeder Goldschmied über das Götzenbildbild; denn sein gegossenes BildBild ist Lüge, und kein GeistGeist ist in ihnen. 14 Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.8
15 Nichtigkeit sind sie, ein Werk des Gespötts: Zur ZeitZeit ihrer Heimsuchung gehen sie zugrunde.15 They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
16 JakobsJakobs Teil ist nicht wie diese; denn er ist es, der das All gebildet hat, und IsraelIsrael ist der Stamm seines ErbteilsErbteils; HERR der HeerscharenHeerscharen ist sein Name.16 The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name.
17 Raffe dein Gepäck zusammen aus dem Land, du Bewohnerin der Festung11!17 Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.9
18 Denn so spricht der HERR: Siehe, ich werde diesmal die Bewohner des Landes wegschleudern und sie ängstigen12, damit sie13 sie finden.18 For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so.
19 WeheWehe mir ob meiner Wunde! Schmerzlich14 ist mein Schlag. Doch ich spreche: Ja, das ist mein Leiden, und ich will es tragen. 19 Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.
20 Mein ZeltZelt ist zerstört, und alle meine Seile sind zerrissen; meine KinderKinder sind von mir weggezogen und sind nicht mehr. Da ist niemand mehr, der mein ZeltZelt ausspannt und meine Zeltbehänge aufrichtet.20 My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
21 Denn die Hirten sind dumm geworden und haben den HERRN nicht gesucht; darum haben sie nicht verständig gehandelt15, und ihre ganze HerdeHerde hat sich zerstreut.21 For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
22 Horch, ein Gerücht: Siehe, es kommt, und ein großes Getöse vom Land des NordensNordens, um die Städte JudasJudas zur WüsteWüste zu machen, zur Wohnung der Schakale. 22 Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.
23 Ich weiß, HERR, dass nicht beim Menschen sein Weg steht, nicht bei dem MannMann, der wandelt, seinen Gang zu richten.23 O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
24 Züchtige mich, HERR, doch nach Gebühr; nicht in deinem ZornZorn, dass du mich nicht aufreibst16.24 O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.10
25 Ergieße deinen Grimm über die NationenNationen, die dich nicht kennen, und über die GeschlechterGeschlechter, die deinen NamenNamen nicht anrufen! Denn sie haben JakobJakob aufgezehrt, ja, sie haben ihn aufgezehrt und ihn vernichtet und seine Wohnung verwüstet.25 Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.
