1 Und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael brachen auf und lagerten sich in den Ebenen1 MoabsMoabs, jenseits des JordanJordan von JerichoJericho.1 And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.
2 Und BalakBalak, der SohnSohn ZipporsZippors, sah alles, was IsraelIsrael den AmoriternAmoritern getan hatte.2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
3 Und MoabMoab fürchtete sich sehr vor dem Volk, weil es groß war, und es graute MoabMoab vor den KindernKindern IsraelIsrael.3 And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.
4 Und MoabMoab sprach zu den Ältesten von MidianMidian: Nun wird dieser Haufen alle unsere Umgebungen abfressen, wie das RindRind das Grüne des Feldes abfrisst. Und BalakBalak, der SohnSohn ZipporsZippors, war zu jener ZeitZeit König von MoabMoab. 4 And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.
5 Und er sandte Boten zu BileamBileam, dem SohnSohn BeorsBeors, nach PethorPethor, das am Strom2 ist, in das Land der KinderKinder seines Volkes, um ihn zu rufen, und er ließ ihm sagen: Siehe, ein Volk ist aus Ägypten gezogen; siehe, es bedeckt die Fläche3 des Landes, und es liegt mir gegenüber.5 He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:1
6 Und nun, komm doch, verfluche mir dieses Volk, denn es ist stärker als ich. Vielleicht gelingt es mir, dass wir es schlagen und ich es aus dem Land vertreibe; denn ich weiß, wen du segnest, der ist gesegnet, und wen du verfluchst, der ist verflucht.6 Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I wot that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.
7 Und die Ältesten von MoabMoab und die Ältesten von MidianMidian zogen hin mit dem Wahrsagerlohn in der Hand. Und sie kamen zu BileamBileam und redeten zu ihm die WorteWorte BalaksBalaks.7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.
8 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Übernachtet hier diese NachtNacht, und ich werde euch Antwort bringen, so wie der HERR zu mir reden wird. Und die Fürsten von MoabMoab blieben bei BileamBileam.8 And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.
9 Und GottGott kam zu BileamBileam und sprach: Wer sind diese Männer bei dir?9 And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee?
10 Und BileamBileam sprach zu GottGott: BalakBalak, der SohnSohn ZipporsZippors, der König von MoabMoab, hat zu mir gesandt:10 And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,
11 Siehe, das Volk, das aus Ägypten gezogen ist, es bedeckt die Fläche des Landes; komm nun, verwünsche es mir, vielleicht vermag ich gegen dasselbe zu kämpfen und es zu vertreiben.11 Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covereth the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.2
12 Und GottGott sprach zu BileamBileam: Du sollst nicht mit ihnen gehen; du sollst das Volk nicht verfluchen, denn es ist gesegnet.12 And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed.
13 Und BileamBileam stand des MorgensMorgens auf und sprach zu den Fürsten BalaksBalaks: Zieht in euer Land; denn der HERR hat sich geweigert, mir zu gestatten, mit euch zu gehen.13 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
14 Und die Fürsten von MoabMoab machten sich auf und kamen zu BalakBalak und sprachen: BileamBileam hat sich geweigert, mit uns zu gehen.14 And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.
15 Da sandte BalakBalak noch einmal Fürsten, mehr und geehrtere als jene.15 And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.
16 Und sie kamen zu BileamBileam und sprachen zu ihm: So spricht BalakBalak, der SohnSohn ZipporsZippors: Lass dich doch nicht abhalten, zu mir zu kommen;16 And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:3
17 denn sehr hoch will ich dich ehren, und alles, was du mir sagen wirst, will ich tun; so komm doch, verwünsche mir dieses Volk!17 For I will promote thee unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever thou sayest unto me: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.
18 Und BileamBileam antwortete und sprach zu den Knechten BalaksBalaks: Wenn BalakBalak mir sein HausHaus voll SilberSilber und GoldGold gäbe, so vermöchte ich nicht den Befehl des HERRN, meines GottesGottes, zu übertreten, um Kleines oder Großes zu tun. 18 And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.
19 Und nun bleibt doch hier, auch ihr, diese NachtNacht, und ich werde erfahren, was der HERR weiter mit mir reden wird. 19 Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more.
20 Da kam GottGott des NachtsNachts zu BileamBileam und sprach zu ihm: Wenn die Männer gekommen sind, um dich zu rufen, so mach dich auf, geh mit ihnen; aber nur dasjenige, was ich dir sagen werde, sollst du tun.20 And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do.
21 Und BileamBileam machte sich am MorgenMorgen auf und sattelte seine Eselin und zog mit den Fürsten von MoabMoab.21 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
22 Da entbrannte der ZornZorn GottesGottes, dass er hinzog; und der EngelEngel des HERRN stellte sich in den Weg, ihm zu widerstehen4. Er aber ritt auf seiner Eselin, und seine beiden Jünglinge waren mit ihm. 22 And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.
23 Und die Eselin sah den EngelEngel des HERRN auf dem Weg stehen mit seinem gezückten SchwertSchwert in seiner Hand, und die Eselin bog vom Weg ab und ging ins Feld; und BileamBileam schlug die Eselin, um sie wieder auf den Weg zu lenken. 23 And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.
24 Da trat der EngelEngel des HERRN in einen Hohlweg zwischen den Weinbergen: eine Mauer war auf dieser, und eine Mauer auf jener Seite.24 But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.
25 Und die Eselin sah den EngelEngel des HERRN und drängte sich an die Wand und drückte den Fuß BileamsBileams an die Wand; und er schlug sie noch einmal.25 And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he smote her again.
26 Da ging der EngelEngel des HERRN nochmals weiter und trat an einen engen Ort, wo kein Weg war auszubiegen, weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken. 26 And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
27 Und als die Eselin den EngelEngel des HERRN sah, legte sie sich nieder unter BileamBileam; und es entbrannte der ZornZorn BileamsBileams, und er schlug die Eselin mit dem Stab.27 And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.
28 Da tat der HERR den Mund der Eselin auf, und sie sprach zu BileamBileam: Was habe ich dir getan, dass du mich nun dreimal geschlagen hast? 28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?
29 Und BileamBileam sprach zu der Eselin: Weil du Spott mit mir getrieben hast; wäre doch ein SchwertSchwert in meiner Hand, so hätte ich dich jetzt totgeschlagen5!29 And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee.
30 Und die Eselin sprach zu BileamBileam: Bin ich nicht deine Eselin, auf der du geritten bist von jeher6 bis auf diesen TagTag? War ich je gewohnt, dir so zu tun? Und er sprach: Nein.30 And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? And he said, Nay.45
31 Da enthüllte der HERR die AugenAugen BileamsBileams, und er sah den EngelEngel des HERRN auf dem Weg stehen, mit seinem gezückten SchwertSchwert in seiner Hand; und er neigte sich und warf sich nieder auf sein Angesicht. 31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.6
32 Und der EngelEngel des HERRN sprach zu ihm: Warum hast du deine Eselin nun dreimal geschlagen? Siehe, ich bin ausgegangen, dir zu widerstehen7, denn der Weg ist verderblich8 vor mir. 32 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse before me:7
33 Und die Eselin sah mich und bog vor mir aus nun dreimal; wenn sie nicht vor mir ausgebogen wäre, so hätte ich dich jetzt auch erschlagen, sie aber am LebenLeben gelassen. 33 And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain thee, and saved her alive.
34 Und BileamBileam sprach zu dem EngelEngel des HERRN: Ich habe gesündigt, denn ich wusste nicht, dass du mir auf dem Weg entgegenstandest; und nun, wenn es übel ist in deinen AugenAugen, so will ich umkehren. 34 And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.8
35 Und der EngelEngel des HERRN sprach zu BileamBileam: Geh mit den Männern; aber nur dasjenige, was ich dir sagen werde, sollst du reden. Und BileamBileam zog mit den Fürsten BalaksBalaks. 35 And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
36 Und als BalakBalak hörte, dass BileamBileam käme, da ging er aus, ihm entgegen, nach der Stadt Moabs9, an der Grenze des ArnonArnon, der an der äußersten Grenze fließt10. 36 And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.
37 Und BalakBalak sprach zu BileamBileam: Habe ich nicht ausdrücklich zu dir gesandt, um dich zu rufen? Warum bist du nicht zu mir gekommen? Vermag ich etwa nicht, dich zu ehren?37 And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honour?
38 Und BileamBileam sprach zu BalakBalak: Siehe, ich bin zu dir gekommen; vermag ich nun wohl irgend etwas zu reden? Das WortWort, das GottGott mir in den Mund legt, das werde ich reden. 38 And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.
39 Und BileamBileam ging mit BalakBalak; und sie kamen nach Kirjat-Chuzoth.39 And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjathhuzoth.9
40 Und BalakBalak opferte11 Rind- und Kleinvieh und schickte davon dem BileamBileam und den Fürsten, die bei ihm waren.40 And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.
41 Und es geschah am MorgenMorgen, da nahm BalakBalak den BileamBileam und führte ihn hinauf nach den Höhen des BaalBaal, und er sah von dort aus das Äußerste des Volkes.41 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.
