1 Und EliphasEliphas, der TemaniterTemaniter, antwortete und sprach:1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 Kann ein MannMann GottGott Nutzen bringen? Vielmehr sich selbst nützt der Einsichtige.2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?1
3 Liegt dem Allmächtigen daran, wenn du gerecht bist, oder ist es ihm ein GewinnGewinn, wenn du deine Wege vollkommen machst? 3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?
4 Ist es wegen deiner Gottesfurcht, dass er dich straft, mit dir ins GerichtGericht geht?4 Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment?
5 Ist nicht deine Bosheit groß und deiner Ungerechtigkeiten kein Ende? 5 Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite?
6 Denn du pfändetest deinen BruderBruder ohne Ursache, und die KleiderKleider der Nackten zogst du aus;6 For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.2
7 den Lechzenden tränktest du nicht mit Wasser, und dem Hungrigen verweigertest du das BrotBrot. 7 Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.
8 Und dem MannMann der Gewalt1, ihm gehörte das Land, und der Angesehene wohnte darin.8 But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.34
9 Die Witwen schicktest du leer fort, und die ArmeArme der Waisen wurden zermalmt2.9 Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
10 Darum sind Schlingen rings um dich her, und ein plötzlicher Schrecken macht dich bestürzt.10 Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden fear troubleth thee;
11 Oder siehst du nicht die FinsternisFinsternis und die Wasserflut, die dich bedeckt?11 Or darkness, that thou canst not see; and abundance of waters cover thee.
12 Ist GottGott nicht so hoch wie die HimmelHimmel? Sieh doch den Gipfel der Sterne3, wie erhaben sie sind!12 Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!5
13 Und so sprichst du: Was sollte Gott4 wissen? Kann er richten durch Wolkendunkel hindurch?13 And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?6
14 Die Wolken sind ihm eine Hülle, dass er nicht sieht, und er durchwandelt den Kreis des HimmelsHimmels.14 Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he seeth not; and he walketh in the circuit of heaven.
15 Willst du den Pfad der Vorzeit einhalten, den die Frevler betraten,15 Hast thou marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
16 die weggerafft wurden vor der ZeitZeit? Wie ein Strom zerfloss ihr fester Grund;16 Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflown with a flood:7
17 die zu Gott5 sprachen: Weiche von uns! Und was könnte der AllmächtigeAllmächtige für uns tun6?17 Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?8
18 Und doch hatte er ihre Häuser mit Wohlstand erfüllt. – Aber der RatRat der Gottlosen sei7 fern von mir!18 Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
19 Die Gerechten sehen es und freuen sich, und der SchuldloseSchuldlose spottet ihrer:19 The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
20 Sind nicht unsere Gegner vertilgt, und hat nicht FeuerFeuer ihren Überfluss gefressen? 20 Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.910
21 Verkehre doch freundlich mit ihm und halte8 Frieden; dadurch wird Wohlfahrt über dich kommen. 21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.11
22 Empfange doch Belehrung aus seinem Mund, und nimm dir seine WorteWorte zu Herzen.22 Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart.
23 Wenn du zu dem Allmächtigen umkehrst, so wirst du wieder aufgebaut werden; wenn du Unrecht entfernst aus deinen Zelten.23 If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles.
24 Und lege das Golderz in den StaubStaub und das GoldGold von OphirOphir unter den Kies der Bäche;24 Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.12
25 so wird der AllmächtigeAllmächtige dein Golderz und dein glänzendes SilberSilber sein.25 Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defence, and thou shalt have plenty of silver.1314
26 Denn dann wirst du an dem Allmächtigen dich ergötzen und zu GottGott dein Angesicht erheben.26 For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.
27 Du wirst zu ihm betenbeten, und er wird dich erhören; und deine GelübdeGelübde wirst du bezahlen.27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows.
28 Beschließest du eine Sache, so wird sie zustande kommen, und LichtLicht wird strahlen über deinen Wegen.28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.
29 Wenn sie abwärts gehen, so wirst du sagen: Empor! Und den, der die AugenAugen niederschlägt, wird er9 retten.29 When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.15
30 Selbst den Nicht-Schuldlosen wird er befreien: er wird befreit werden durch die Reinheit deiner Hände.30 He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.16
