1 Und AbimelechAbimelech, der SohnSohn Jerub-BaalsJerub-Baals, ging nach SichemSichem zu den BrüdernBrüdern seiner MutterMutter; und er redete zu ihnen und zu dem ganzen GeschlechtGeschlecht des Hauses des VatersVaters seiner MutterMutter und sprach: 1 And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother's brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,
2 Redet doch vor den Ohren aller BürgerBürger von SichemSichem: Was ist besser für euch, dass 70 Männer über euch herrschen, alle Söhne Jerub-BaalsJerub-Baals, oder dass ein MannMann über euch herrsche? Und bedenkt, dass ich euer Gebein und euer FleischFleisch bin.2 Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.1
3 Und die BrüderBrüder seiner MutterMutter redeten von ihm vor den Ohren aller BürgerBürger von SichemSichem alle diese WorteWorte. Und ihr HerzHerz neigte sich AbimelechAbimelech nach; denn sie sprachen: Er ist unser BruderBruder.3 And his mother's brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.2
4 Und sie gaben ihm 70 SekelSekel SilberSilber aus dem HausHaus des Baal-BeritBaal-Berit; und AbimelechAbimelech warb damit lose und übermütige Männer an, und sie folgten ihm nach. 4 And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baalberith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.
5 Und er kam in das HausHaus seines VatersVaters, nach OphraOphra, und ermordete seine BrüderBrüder, die Söhne Jerub-BaalsJerub-Baals, 70 MannMann auf einem Stein; aber JothamJotham, der jüngste SohnSohn Jerub-BaalsJerub-Baals, blieb übrig, denn er hatte sich versteckt.5 And he went unto his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.
6 Und alle BürgerBürger von SichemSichem und das ganze HausHaus Millo1 versammelten sich und gingen hin und machten AbimelechAbimelech zum König bei der TerebintheTerebinthe des DenkmalsDenkmals, die bei SichemSichem ist2.6 And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.3
7 Und man berichtete es JothamJotham. Da ging er hin und stellte sich auf den Gipfel des BergesBerges GerisimGerisim, und er erhob seine Stimme und rief und sprach zu ihnen: Hört auf mich, BürgerBürger von SichemSichem, so wird GottGott auf euch hören!7 And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.
8 EinstEinst gingen die Bäume hin, einen König über sich zu salben; und sie sprachen zum OlivenbaumOlivenbaum: Sei König über uns!8 The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.
9 Und der OlivenbaumOlivenbaum sprach zu ihnen: Sollte ich meine Fettigkeit aufgeben, die GötterGötter und Menschen an mir preisen3, und sollte hingehen, zu schweben über den Bäumen?9 But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?4
10 Da sprachen die Bäume zum FeigenbaumFeigenbaum: Komm du, sei König über uns!10 And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.
11 Und der FeigenbaumFeigenbaum sprach zu ihnen: Sollte ich meine Süßigkeit aufgeben und meine gute Frucht, und sollte hingehen, zu schweben über den Bäumen?11 But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?
12 Da sprachen die Bäume zum Weinstock: Komm du, sei König über uns!12 Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.
13 Und der Weinstock sprach zu ihnen: Sollte ich meinen Most aufgeben, der GötterGötter und Menschen erfreut, und sollte hingehen, zu schweben über den Bäumen?13 And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?
14 Da sprachen alle Bäume zum DornstrauchDornstrauch: Komm du, sei König über uns!14 Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.5
15 Und der DornstrauchDornstrauch sprach zu den Bäumen: Wenn ihr mich in WahrheitWahrheit zum König über euch salben wollt, so kommt, vertraut euch meinem Schatten an4; wenn aber nicht, so soll FeuerFeuer von dem DornstrauchDornstrauch ausgehen und die ZedernZedern des LibanonLibanon verzehren. 15 And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.
16 Und nun, wenn ihr in WahrheitWahrheit und in Redlichkeit gehandelt habt, dass ihr AbimelechAbimelech zum König gemacht, und wenn ihr Gutes getan habt an Jerub-BaalJerub-Baal und an seinem HausHaus, und wenn ihr ihm getan habt nach dem Tun seiner Hände, – 16 Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;
17 denn mein VaterVater hat für euch gekämpft und sein LebenLeben dahingeworfen und euch aus der Hand MidiansMidians errettet;17 (For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:6
18 ihr aber habt euch heute gegen das HausHaus meines VatersVaters erhoben und seine Söhne ermordet, 70 MannMann auf einem Stein, und habt AbimelechAbimelech, den SohnSohn seiner MagdMagd, zum König gemacht über die BürgerBürger von SichemSichem, weil er euer BruderBruder ist –18 And ye are risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)
19 wenn ihr so an diesem TagTag in WahrheitWahrheit und in Redlichkeit an Jerub-BaalJerub-Baal und an seinem HausHaus gehandelt habt, so freut euch AbimelechsAbimelechs, und auch er möge sich euer freuen! 19 If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:
20 Wenn aber nicht, so gehe FeuerFeuer von AbimelechAbimelech aus und verzehre die BürgerBürger von SichemSichem und das HausHaus MilloMillo; und es gehe ein FeuerFeuer aus von den BürgernBürgern von SichemSichem und von dem HausHaus MilloMillo und verzehre AbimelechAbimelech! 20 But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.
21 Und JothamJotham floh und entwich und ging nach BeerBeer; und er blieb dort wegen seines5 BrudersBruders AbimelechAbimelech.21 And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.
22 Und AbimelechAbimelech herrschte über IsraelIsrael 3 JahreJahre.22 When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel,
23 Und GottGott sandte einen bösen GeistGeist zwischen AbimelechAbimelech und die BürgerBürger von SichemSichem; und die BürgerBürger von SichemSichem handelten treulos gegen AbimelechAbimelech,23 Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:
24 damit die Gewalttat an den 70 Söhnen Jerub-BaalsJerub-Baals über ihn käme und ihr BlutBlut gelegt würde auf ihren BruderBruder AbimelechAbimelech, der sie ermordet, und auf die BürgerBürger von SichemSichem, die seine Hände gestärkt hatten, seine BrüderBrüder zu ermorden.24 That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.7
25 Und die BürgerBürger von SichemSichem legten einen HinterhaltHinterhalt6 gegen ihn auf die Gipfel der BergeBerge, und sie7 beraubten jeden, der auf dem Weg bei ihnen vorüberzog. Und es wurde dem AbimelechAbimelech berichtet.25 And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.
26 Und GaalGaal, der SohnSohn EbedsEbeds, kam mit seinen BrüdernBrüdern, und sie zogen durch SichemSichem; und die BürgerBürger von SichemSichem vertrauten ihm. 26 And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.
27 Und sie gingen aufs Feld hinaus und lasen ihre WeinbergeWeinberge und kelterten; und sie hielten ein Dankfest und gingen in das HausHaus ihres GottesGottes und aßen und tranken und fluchten dem AbimelechAbimelech.27 And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.8
28 Und GaalGaal, der SohnSohn EbedsEbeds, sprach: Wer ist AbimelechAbimelech und wer SichemSichem, dass wir ihm dienen sollten? Ist er nicht der SohnSohn Jerub-BaalsJerub-Baals, und SebulSebul sein StatthalterStatthalter? Dient den Männern HemorsHemors, des VatersVaters von SichemSichem! Denn warum sollten wir ihm dienen?28 And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?
29 Hätte ich nur dieses Volk unter meiner Hand, so wollte ich AbimelechAbimelech wegschaffen! Und er sprach von AbimelechAbimelech: Mehre nur dein Heer und zieh aus!29 And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.
30 Und SebulSebul, der Oberste der Stadt, hörte die WorteWorte GaalsGaals, des SohnesSohnes EbedsEbeds, und sein ZornZorn entbrannte;30 And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.9
31 und er sandte Boten an AbimelechAbimelech mit List und sprach: Siehe, GaalGaal, der SohnSohn EbedsEbeds, und seine BrüderBrüder sind nach SichemSichem gekommen, und siehe, sie wiegeln die Stadt gegen dich auf8. 31 And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.10
32 Und nun, mach dich in der NachtNacht auf, du und das Volk, das bei dir ist, und lege dich in HinterhaltHinterhalt auf dem Feld.32 Now therefore up by night, thou and the people that is with thee, and lie in wait in the field:
33 Und es geschehe am MorgenMorgen, wenn die SonneSonne aufgeht, so mach dich früh auf und überfalle die Stadt; und siehe, wenn er und das Volk, das bei ihm ist, gegen dich hinausziehen, so tu ihm, wie deine Hand es finden wird.33 And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.11
34 Und AbimelechAbimelech und alles Volk, das mit ihm war, machten sich in der NachtNacht auf, und sie legten sich in vier Haufen gegen SichemSichem in HinterhaltHinterhalt. 34 And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.
35 Und GaalGaal, der SohnSohn EbedsEbeds, ging hinaus und trat an den Eingang des Stadttores. Da machten sich AbimelechAbimelech und das Volk, das bei ihm war, aus dem HinterhaltHinterhalt auf.35 And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait.
36 Und GaalGaal sah das Volk und sprach zu SebulSebul: Siehe, Volk kommt von den Gipfeln der BergeBerge herab. Und SebulSebul sprach zu ihm: Den Schatten der BergeBerge siehst du für Männer an.36 And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.
37 Und GaalGaal redete wiederum und sprach: Siehe, Volk kommt von der HöheHöhe des Landes herab, und eine AbteilungAbteilung kommt auf dem Weg nach Elon-Meonenim9. 37 And Gaal spake again and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.1213
38 Da sprach SebulSebul zu ihm: Wo ist nun dein Maul, da du sprachst: Wer ist AbimelechAbimelech, dass wir ihm dienen sollten? Ist das nicht das Volk, das du verachtet hast? Zieh doch jetzt aus und kämpfe gegen ihn!38 Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.
39 Und GaalGaal zog aus vor den BürgernBürgern von SichemSichem und kämpfte gegen AbimelechAbimelech.39 And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.
40 Und AbimelechAbimelech jagte ihm nach, und er floh vor ihm; und es fielen viele Erschlagene bis an den Eingang des ToresTores.40 And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the gate.
41 Und AbimelechAbimelech blieb in ArumaAruma; und SebulSebul vertrieb GaalGaal und seine BrüderBrüder, so dass sie nicht mehr in SichemSichem blieben.41 And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.
42 Und es geschah am anderen TagTag, da ging das Volk aufs Feld hinaus; und man berichtete es dem AbimelechAbimelech. 42 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.
43 Und er nahm das Volk und teilte es in drei Haufen und legte sich in HinterhaltHinterhalt auf dem Feld. Und er sah: Und siehe, das Volk kam aus der Stadt heraus; und er erhob sich gegen sie und schlug sie. 43 And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and, behold, the people were come forth out of the city; and he rose up against them, and smote them.
44 Und AbimelechAbimelech und die Haufen, die mit ihm waren, brachen hervor und stellten sich an den Eingang des Stadttores; und zwei der Haufen fielen über alle her, die auf dem Feld waren, und erschlugen sie. 44 And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and slew them.
45 Und AbimelechAbimelech kämpfte gegen die Stadt jenen ganzen TagTag; und er nahm die Stadt ein, und das Volk, das darin war, tötete er; und er riss die Stadt nieder und bestreute sie mit Salz10.45 And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that was therein, and beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.
46 Und alle Bewohner11 des TurmesTurmes von SichemSichem hörten es, und sie gingen in die Burg12 des Hauses des Gottes13 Berit14. 46 And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard that, they entered into an hold of the house of the god Berith.
47 Und es wurde dem AbimelechAbimelech berichtet, dass alle Bewohner des TurmesTurmes von SichemSichem sich versammelt hätten.47 And it was told Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.
48 Da stieg AbimelechAbimelech auf den BergBerg ZalmonZalmon, er und alles Volk, das bei ihm war; und AbimelechAbimelech nahm eine AxtAxt in seine Hand und hieb einen Baumast ab und hob ihn auf und legte ihn auf seine SchulterSchulter, und er sprach zu dem Volk, das mit ihm war: Was ihr gesehen habt, das ich getan habe, das tut schnell wie ich. 48 And Abimelech gat him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.14
49 Da hieb auch das ganze Volk jeder seinen Ast ab, und sie folgten AbimelechAbimelech nach und legten sie an die BurgBurg und zündeten die BurgBurg über ihnen mit FeuerFeuer an. Und so starben auch alle Leute des TurmesTurmes von SichemSichem, etwa 1000 Männer und Frauen. 49 And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.
50 Und AbimelechAbimelech zog nach TebezTebez, und er belagerte TebezTebez und nahm es ein.50 Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.
51 Es war aber ein starker TurmTurm mitten in der Stadt, und dahin flohen alle Männer und Frauen, alle BürgerBürger der Stadt; und sie schlossen hinter sich zu und stiegen auf das Dach des TurmesTurmes.51 But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and gat them up to the top of the tower.
52 Und AbimelechAbimelech kam an den TurmTurm und kämpfte gegen ihn; und er nahte zum Eingang des TurmesTurmes, um ihn mit FeuerFeuer zu verbrennen. 52 And Abimelech came unto the tower, and fought against it, and went hard unto the door of the tower to burn it with fire.
53 Da warf eine FrauFrau den oberen Stein einer Handmühle auf den KopfKopf AbimelechsAbimelechs und zerschmetterte ihm den Schädel.53 And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and all to brake his skull.
54 Und er rief schnell dem Knaben, der seine WaffenWaffen trug, und sprach zu ihm: Zieh dein SchwertSchwert und töte mich, dass man nicht von mir sage: Eine FrauFrau hat ihn umgebracht! Und sein Knabe durchstach ihn, und er starb.54 Then he called hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A woman slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.
55 Und als die Männer von IsraelIsrael sahen, dass AbimelechAbimelech tot war, da gingen sie jeder an seinen Ort.55 And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man unto his place.
56 Und so brachte GottGott die Bosheit AbimelechsAbimelechs, die er an seinem VaterVater verübt hatte, indem er seine 70 BrüderBrüder ermordete, auf ihn zurück.56 Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren:
57 Und die ganze Bosheit der Männer von SichemSichem brachte GottGott auf ihren KopfKopf zurück, und es kam über sie der FluchFluch JothamsJothams, des SohnesSohnes Jerub-BaalsJerub-Baals.57 And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.
