1 Und die Männer von EphraimEphraim sprachen zu ihm: Was ist das für eine Sache, die du uns getan, dass du uns nicht gerufen hast, als du hinzogst, um gegen MidianMidian zu kämpfen! Und sie zankten heftig mit ihm.1 And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply.12
2 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Was habe ich nun getan im Vergleich mit euch? Ist nicht die NachleseNachlese EphraimsEphraims besser als die WeinleseWeinlese AbiesersAbiesers?2 And he said unto them, What have I done now in comparison of you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?
3 In eure Hand hat GottGott die Fürsten von MidianMidian, OrebOreb und SeebSeeb, gegeben; und was habe ich tun können im Vergleich mit euch? Da ließ ihr ZornZorn von ihm ab, als er dieses WortWort redete.3 God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then their anger was abated toward him, when he had said that.3
4 Und GideonGideon kam an den JordanJordan; er ging hinüber, er und die 300 MannMann, die bei ihm waren, ermattet und nachjagend.4 And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them.
5 Und er sprach zu den Männern von SukkotSukkot: Gebt doch dem Volk, das mir nachfolgt, einige Laibe BrotBrot; denn sie sind ermattet, und ich jage den Königen von MidianMidian, SebachSebach und ZalmunnaZalmunna, nach.5 And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread unto the people that follow me; for they be faint, and I am pursuing after Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.
6 Und die Obersten von SukkotSukkot sprachen: Ist die Faust SebachsSebachs und ZalmunnasZalmunnas schon in deiner Hand, dass wir deinem Heer BrotBrot geben sollen?6 And the princes of Succoth said, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thine army?
7 Da sprach GideonGideon: Darum, wenn der HERR SebachSebach und ZalmunnaZalmunna in meine Hand gegeben hat, werde ich euer FleischFleisch zerdreschen mit DornenDornen der WüsteWüste und mit StechdistelnStechdisteln! 7 And Gideon said, Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.4
8 Und er zog von dort nach PnuelPnuel hinauf und redete zu ihnen auf dieselbe WeiseWeise. Und die Männer von PnuelPnuel antworteten ihm, wie die Männer von SukkotSukkot geantwortet hatten.8 And he went up thence to Penuel, and spake unto them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered him.
9 Da sprach er auch zu den Männern von PnuelPnuel und sagte: Wenn ich in Frieden zurückkomme, so werde ich diesen TurmTurm niederreißen!9 And he spake also unto the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.
10 SebachSebach und ZalmunnaZalmunna waren aber in KarkorKarkor, und ihre Heere mit ihnen, etwa 15000 MannMann, alle, die übriggeblieben waren von dem ganzen LagerLager der Söhne des OstensOstens; und der Gefallenen waren 120000 MannMann, die das SchwertSchwert zogen. 10 Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand men, all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: for there fell an hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.5
11 Und GideonGideon zog hinauf den Weg zu den Zeltbewohnern, östlich von NobachNobach und JogbehaJogbeha; und er schlug das LagerLager, und das LagerLager war sorglos.11 And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host: for the host was secure.
12 Und SebachSebach und ZalmunnaZalmunna flohen, und er jagte ihnen nach; und er fing die beiden KönigeKönige von MidianMidian, SebachSebach und ZalmunnaZalmunna; und das ganze LagerLager setzte er in Schrecken.12 And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host.6
13 Und GideonGideon, der SohnSohn JoasJoas', kehrte aus dem KampfKampf zurück, von der Anhöhe HeresHeres herab.13 And Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle before the sun was up,
14 Und er fing einen Jüngling von den Männern von SukkotSukkot und befragte ihn; und dieser schrieb ihm die Obersten von SukkotSukkot und seine Ältesten auf, 77 MannMann.14 And caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and enquired of him: and he described unto him the princes of Succoth, and the elders thereof, even threescore and seventeen men.7
15 Und er kam zu den Männern von SukkotSukkot und sprach: Seht hier SebachSebach und ZalmunnaZalmunna, über die ihr mich verhöhnt habt, indem ihr spracht: Ist die Faust SebachsSebachs und ZalmunnasZalmunnas schon in deiner Hand, dass wir deinen Männern, die ermattet sind, BrotBrot geben sollen? 15 And he came unto the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye did upbraid me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hand, that we should give bread unto thy men that are weary?
16 Und er nahm die Ältesten der Stadt und DornenDornen der WüsteWüste und StechdistelnStechdisteln, und er züchtigte die Männer von SukkotSukkot mit denselben1.16 And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.8
17 Und den TurmTurm in PnuelPnuel riss er nieder und erschlug die Männer der Stadt.17 And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.
18 Und er sprach zu SebachSebach und zu ZalmunnaZalmunna: Wie waren die Männer, die ihr bei TaborTabor erschlagen habt? Und sie sprachen: Wie du, so waren sie, jeder an GestaltGestalt wie ein KönigssohnKönigssohn.18 Then said he unto Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men were they whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou art, so were they; each one resembled the children of a king.9
19 Und er sprach: Das waren meine BrüderBrüder, die Söhne meiner MutterMutter. So wahr der HERR lebt, wenn ihr sie am LebenLeben gelassen hättet, so erschlüge ich euch nicht!19 And he said, They were my brethren, even the sons of my mother: as the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.
20 Und er sprach zu JeterJeter, seinem Erstgeborenen: Steh auf, erschlage sie! Aber der Knabe zog sein SchwertSchwert nicht; denn er fürchtete sich, weil er noch ein Knabe war.20 And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth.
21 Da sprachen SebachSebach und ZalmunnaZalmunna: Steh du auf und stoße uns nieder; denn wie der MannMann, so seine KraftKraft. Und GideonGideon stand auf und erschlug SebachSebach und ZalmunnaZalmunna; und er nahm die Halbmonde, die an den Hälsen ihrer KameleKamele waren.21 Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man is, so is his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that were on their camels' necks.10
22 Und die Männer von IsraelIsrael sprachen zu GideonGideon: Herrsche über uns, sowohl du als auch dein SohnSohn und deines SohnesSohnes SohnSohn; denn du hast uns aus der Hand MidiansMidians gerettet.22 Then the men of Israel said unto Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.
23 Und GideonGideon sprach zu ihnen: Nicht ich will über euch herrschen, und nicht mein SohnSohn soll über euch herrschen; der HERR soll über euch herrschen.23 And Gideon said unto them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.
24 Und GideonGideon sprach zu ihnen: Eine Bitte will ich von euch erbitten: Gebt mir jeder die OhrringeOhrringe seiner BeuteBeute! (Denn sie hatten goldene OhrringeOhrringe, weil sie IsmaeliterIsmaeliter waren).24 And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. (For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)
25 Und sie sprachen: Gern wollen wir sie geben. Und sie breiteten ein OberkleidOberkleid aus und warfen darauf jeder die OhrringeOhrringe seiner BeuteBeute.25 And they answered, We will willingly give them. And they spread a garment, and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey.
26 Und das Gewicht der goldenen OhrringeOhrringe, die er erbeten hatte, war 1700 SekelSekel GoldGold, außer den Halbmonden und den Ohrgehängen und den Purpurkleidern, die die KönigeKönige von MidianMidian trugen, und außer den Halsketten2, die an den Hälsen ihrer KameleKamele waren.26 And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels' necks.11
27 Und GideonGideon machte daraus ein EphodEphod und stellte es in seiner Stadt auf, in OphraOphra. Und ganz IsraelIsrael hurte demselben dort nach; und es wurde GideonGideon und seinem HausHaus zum FallstrickFallstrick.27 And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city, even in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon, and to his house.
28 So wurde MidianMidian vor den KindernKindern IsraelIsrael gebeugt, und es hob sein HauptHaupt nicht mehr empor. Und das Land hatte in den Tagen GideonsGideons RuheRuhe 40 JahreJahre.28 Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.
29 Und Jerub-BaalJerub-Baal, der SohnSohn JoasJoas', ging hin und wohnte in seinem HausHaus.29 And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.
30 Und GideonGideon hatte 70 Söhne, die aus seiner Lende hervorgegangen waren; denn er hatte viele Frauen.30 And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten: for he had many wives.12
31 Und seine Nebenfrau, die in SichemSichem war, auch sie gebar ihm einen SohnSohn; und er gab ihm den NamenNamen AbimelechAbimelech.31 And his concubine that was in Shechem, she also bare him a son, whose name he called Abimelech.13
32 Und GideonGideon, der SohnSohn JoasJoas', starb in gutem Alter; und er wurde begraben im GrabGrab seines VatersVaters JoasJoas, in OphraOphra der AbieseriterAbieseriter.32 And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
33 Und es geschah, als GideonGideon tot war, da hurten die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael wiederum den BaalimBaalim nach und machten sich den Baal-Berit3 zum GottGott. 33 And it came to pass, as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went a whoring after Baalim, and made Baalberith their god.
34 Und die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael gedachten nicht des HERRN, ihres GottesGottes, der sie errettet hatte aus der Hand aller ihrer Feinde ringsum.34 And the children of Israel remembered not the LORD their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side:
35 Und sie erwiesen keine Güte an dem HausHaus Jerub-Baal-Gideons, nach all dem Guten, das er an IsraelIsrael getan hatte.35 Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.
