1 (SprücheSprüche SalomosSalomos.) Ein weiser SohnSohn erfreut den VaterVater, aber ein törichter SohnSohn ist Kummer für seine MutterMutter.1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
2 Schätze der Gottlosigkeit nützen nichts, aber GerechtigkeitGerechtigkeit errettet vom TodTod.2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
3 Der HERR lässt die SeeleSeele des Gerechten nicht hungern, aber die Gier der Gottlosen stößt er weg. 3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.1
4 Wer mit lässiger Hand schafft, wird arm; aber die Hand der Fleißigen macht reich.4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
5 Wer im SommerSommer einsammelt, ist ein einsichtsvoller SohnSohn; wer zur Erntezeit in tiefem Schlaf liegt, ist ein SohnSohn, der Schande bringt.5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
6 Dem HauptHaupt des Gerechten werden SegnungenSegnungen zuteil, aber den Mund1 der Gottlosen bedeckt Gewalttat. 6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
7 Das Andenken an den Gerechten ist zum Segen, aber der Name der Gottlosen verwest.7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
8 Wer weisen Herzens ist, nimmt GeboteGebote an; aber ein närrischer Schwätzer2 kommt zu Fall.8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.23
9 Wer in Vollkommenheit3 wandelt, wandelt sicher; wer aber seine Wege krümmt, wird bekannt werden. 9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
10 Wer mit den AugenAugen zwinkert, verursacht Kränkung; und ein närrischer Schwätzer4 kommt zu Fall.10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.4
11 Eine QuelleQuelle des LebensLebens ist der Mund des Gerechten, aber den Mund5 der Gottlosen bedeckt Gewalttat. 11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
12 Hass erregt Zwietracht, aber Liebe deckt alle Übertretungen zu.12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
13 Auf den Lippen des Verständigen wird Weisheit gefunden; aber der StockStock gebührt dem Rücken des Unverständigen.13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.5
14 Die Weisen bewahren ErkenntnisErkenntnis auf, aber der Mund des Narren ist drohender Unglücksfall.14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
15 Der Wohlstand des Reichen ist seine feste Stadt, der Unglücksfall der Geringen ihre Armut.15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 Dem Erwerb des Gerechten folgt LebenLeben, der Ertrag des Gottlosen SündeSünde.16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
17 Es ist der Pfad zum LebenLeben, wenn einer UnterweisungUnterweisung beachtet; wer aber ZuchtZucht unbeachtet lässt, geht irre.17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.6
18 Wer Hass verbirgt, hat Lügenlippen; und wer Verleumdung ausstreut, ist ein TorTor. 18 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
19 Bei der Menge der WorteWorte fehlt Übertretung nicht; wer aber seine Lippen zurückhält, ist einsichtsvoll.19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
20 Die Zunge des Gerechten ist auserlesenes SilberSilber, der Verstand der Gottlosen ist wenig wert.20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.
21 Die Lippen des Gerechten weiden viele, aber die Narren sterben durch Mangel an Verstand.21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.7
22 Der Segen des HERRN, er macht reich, und Anstrengung fügt neben ihm nichts hinzu6.22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
23 Dem Toren ist es wie ein Spiel, Schandtat zu verüben, und Weisheit zu üben dem verständigen MannMann.23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
24 Wovor dem Gottlosen bangt, das wird über ihn kommen, und das Begehren der Gerechten wird gewährt. 24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
25 Wie7 ein SturmwindSturmwind daherfährt, so ist der Gottlose nicht mehr; aber der Gerechte ist ein ewig fester Grund.25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
26 Wie der EssigEssig den Zähnen und wie der Rauch den AugenAugen, so ist der Faule denen, die ihn senden.26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.
27 Die Furcht des HERRN vermehrt die TageTage, aber die JahreJahre der Gottlosen werden verkürzt.27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.8
28 Das Harren der Gerechten wird FreudeFreude, aber die HoffnungHoffnung der Gottlosen wird zunichte.28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
29 Der Weg des HERRN ist eine FestungFestung für die Vollkommenheit, aber Untergang für die, die Frevel tun. 29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.
30 Der Gerechte wird nicht wanken in Ewigkeit, aber die Gottlosen werden das Land nicht bewohnen.30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.
31 Der Mund des Gerechten lässt Weisheit sprießen, aber die Zunge der Verkehrtheit wird ausgerottet werden. 31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
32 Die Lippen des Gerechten verstehen sich8 auf Wohlgefälliges, aber der Mund der Gottlosen ist Verkehrtheit.32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.9
