1 Hört, Söhne, die UnterweisungUnterweisung des VatersVaters, und hört zu, um Verstand zu kennen!1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2 Denn gute LehreLehre gebe ich euch: Verlasst meine Belehrung nicht.2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
3 Denn ein SohnSohn bin ich meinem VaterVater gewesen, ein zarter und einziger vor meiner MutterMutter.3 For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.
4 Und er lehrte mich und sprach zu mir: Dein HerzHerz halte meine WorteWorte fest; beobachte meine GeboteGebote und lebe.4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.
5 Erwirb Weisheit, erwirb Verstand; vergiss nicht und weiche nicht ab von den Reden meines Mundes.5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6 Verlass sie nicht, und sie wird dich behüten; liebe sie, und sie wird dich bewahren.6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee.
7 Der AnfangAnfang der Weisheit ist: Erwirb Weisheit; und für alles, was du erworben hast, erwirb Verstand.7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
8 Halte sie hoch, und sie wird dich erhöhen; sie wird dich zu Ehren bringen, wenn du sie umarmst.8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.
9 Sie wird deinem HauptHaupt einen anmutigen Kranz verleihen, wird dir darreichen eine prächtige KroneKrone.9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.1
10 Höre, mein SohnSohn, und nimm meine Reden an! Und die JahreJahre des LebensLebens werden sich dir vermehren.10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.
11 Ich unterweise dich in dem Weg der Weisheit, leite dich auf Bahnen der Geradheit.11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths.
12 Wenn du gehst, wird dein Schritt nicht beengt werden, und wenn du läufst, wirst du nicht stolpern. 12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13 Halte fest an der UnterweisungUnterweisung, lass sie nicht los; bewahre sie, denn sie ist dein LebenLeben.13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.
14 Komm nicht auf den Pfad der Gottlosen und beschreite nicht den Weg der Bösen. 14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
15 Lass ihn fahren, geh nicht darauf; wende dich von ihm ab und geh vorbei.15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
16 Denn sie schlafen nicht, wenn sie nichts Böses getan haben, und ihr Schlaf wird ihnen geraubtgeraubt, wenn sie nicht jemand zu Fall gebracht haben.16 For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
17 Denn sie essen BrotBrot der Gottlosigkeit und trinken WeinWein der Gewalttaten.17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18 Aber der Pfad der Gerechten ist wie das glänzende Morgenlicht, das stets heller leuchtet bis zur Tageshöhe.18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.
19 Der Weg der Gottlosen ist dem Dunkel gleich; sie erkennen nicht, worüber sie stolpern. 19 The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
20 Mein SohnSohn, höre auf meine WorteWorte, neige dein OhrOhr zu meinen Reden. 20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21 Lass sie nicht von deinen AugenAugen weichen, bewahre sie im Innern deines Herzens.21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
22 Denn LebenLeben sind sie denen, die sie finden, und Gesundheit ihrem ganzen FleischFleisch.22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.2
23 Behüte dein HerzHerz mehr als alles, was zu bewahren ist; denn von ihm aus sind die Ausgänge des LebensLebens.23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.3
24 Tu die Verkehrtheit des Mundes von dir, und die Verdrehtheit der Lippen entferne von dir.24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.4
25 Lass deine AugenAugen geradeaus blicken und deine Wimpern gerade vor dich hin schauen.25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26 Ebne die Bahn deines Fußes, und alle deine Wege seien gerade1;26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.5
27 biege nicht ab zur Rechten noch zur Linken, wende deinen Fuß ab vom Bösen.27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
