1 Eine milde Antwort wendet den Grimm ab, aber ein kränkendes WortWort erregt den ZornZorn.1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
2 Die Zunge der Weisen spricht tüchtiges WissenWissen aus, aber der Mund der Toren sprudelt Narrheit hervor.2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.1
3 Die AugenAugen des HERRN sind an jedem Ort, schauen aus auf Böse und auf Gute.3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.
4 Gelassenheit der Zunge ist ein Baum des LebensLebens, aber Verkehrtheit in ihr ist eine Verwundung des GeistesGeistes.4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.2
5 Ein Narr verschmäht die UnterweisungUnterweisung seines VatersVaters; aber wer die ZuchtZucht beachtet, ist klug1.5 A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
6 Das HausHaus des Gerechten ist eine große Schatzkammer; aber im Einkommen des Gottlosen ist Zerrüttung.6 In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
7 Die Lippen der Weisen streuen ErkenntnisErkenntnis aus, aber nicht so das HerzHerz der Toren2.7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.
8 Das OpferOpfer der Gottlosen ist dem HERRN ein GräuelGräuel, aber das GebetGebet der Aufrichtigen ist sein Wohlgefallen.8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
9 Der Weg des Gottlosen ist dem HERRN ein GräuelGräuel; wer aber der GerechtigkeitGerechtigkeit nachjagt, den liebt er.9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
10 Schlimme ZüchtigungZüchtigung wird dem zuteil, der den Pfad verlässt; wer ZuchtZucht hasst, wird sterben.10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.3
11 ScheolScheol und Abgrund3 sind vor dem HERRN, wieviel mehr die Herzen der Menschenkinder! 11 Hell and destruction are before the LORD: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?
12 Der Spötter liebt es nicht, dass man ihn zurechtweise; zu den Weisen geht er nicht.12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.
13 Ein frohes HerzHerz erfreut das Gesicht; aber bei Kummer des Herzens ist der GeistGeist zerschlagen. 13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
14 Das HerzHerz des Verständigen sucht ErkenntnisErkenntnis, aber der Mund der Toren weidet sich an4 Narrheit.14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
15 Alle TageTage des Elenden sind böse, aber ein fröhliches Herz5 ist ein beständiges Festmahl.15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.
16 Besser wenig mit der Furcht des HERRN, als ein großer SchatzSchatz und Unruhe dabei.16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.
17 Besser ein GerichtGericht Gemüse und Liebe dabei, als ein gemästeter OchseOchse und Hass dabei.17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
18 Ein zorniger MannMann erregt ZankZank, aber ein Langmütiger beschwichtigt den StreitStreit.18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
19 Der Weg des Faulen ist wie eine Dornhecke6, aber der Pfad der Aufrichtigen ist gebahnt.19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.4
20 Ein weiser SohnSohn erfreut den VaterVater, aber ein törichter MenschMensch verachtet seine MutterMutter.20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
21 Die Narrheit ist dem Unverständigen FreudeFreude, aber ein verständiger MannMann wandelt geradeaus.21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.5
22 Pläne scheitern, wo keine Besprechung ist; aber durch viele RatgeberRatgeber kommen sie zustande.22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.
23 Ein MannMann hat FreudeFreude an der Antwort seines Mundes; und ein WortWort zu seiner ZeitZeit, wie gut!23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!6
24 Der Weg des LebensLebens ist für den Einsichtigen aufwärts, damit er dem ScheolScheol unten entgehe.24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
25 Das HausHaus der Stolzen reißt der HERRN nieder, aber die Grenze der Witwe stellt er fest.25 The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.
26 Böse Anschläge sind dem HERRN ein GräuelGräuel, aber huldvolle WorteWorte sind rein. 26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.7
27 Wer der Habsucht frönt, zerrüttet sein HausHaus; wer aber Geschenke7 hasst, wird leben.27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
28 Das HerzHerz des Gerechten überlegt, um zu antworten; aber der Mund der Gottlosen sprudelt Bosheiten hervor.28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
29 Der HERR ist fern von den Gottlosen, aber das GebetGebet der Gerechten hört er.29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
30 Das Leuchten der AugenAugen erfreut das HerzHerz; eine gute Nachricht labt das Gebein.30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.
31 Ein OhrOhr, das auf die ZuchtZucht zum LebenLeben hört, wird sich inmitten der Weisen aufhalten. 31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
32 Wer UnterweisungUnterweisung verwirft, verachtet seine SeeleSeele; wer aber auf ZuchtZucht hört, erwirbt Verstand.32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.8910
33 Die Furcht des HERRN ist UnterweisungUnterweisung zur Weisheit, und der Ehre geht Demut voraus.33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
