1 Und JethroJethro, der PriesterPriester von MidianMidian, der Schwiegervater MosesMoses, hörte alles, was GottGott an MoseMose und an IsraelIsrael, seinem Volk, getan, dass der HERR IsraelIsrael aus Ägypten herausgeführt hatte.1 When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;
2 Und JethroJethro, der Schwiegervater MosesMoses, nahm ZipporaZippora, die FrauFrau MosesMoses, nach ihrer Heimsendung, 2 Then Jethro, Moses' father in law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her back,
3 und ihre zwei Söhne, von denen der Name des einen GersomGersom war, denn er sprach: Ein FremderFremder bin ich geworden in fremdem Land,13 And her two sons; of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land:1
4 und der Name des anderen Elieser2: Denn der GottGott meines VatersVaters ist meine Hilfe gewesen und hat mich errettet vom SchwertSchwert des PharaosPharaos.4 And the name of the other was Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:2
5 Und JethroJethro, der Schwiegervater MosesMoses, und seine Söhne und seine FrauFrau kamen zu MoseMose in die WüsteWüste, wo er gelagert war am BergBerg GottesGottes. 5 And Jethro, Moses' father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:
6 Und er ließ MoseMose sagen: Ich, dein Schwiegervater JethroJethro, bin zu dir gekommen, und deine FrauFrau und ihre beiden Söhne mit ihr. 6 And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.
7 Da ging MoseMose hinaus, seinem Schwiegervater entgegen, und beugte sich nieder und küsste ihn; und sie fragten einer den anderen nach ihrem Wohlergehen und gingen ins ZeltZelt.7 And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent.3
8 Und MoseMose erzählte seinem Schwiegervater alles, was der HERR an dem PharaoPharao und an den Ägyptern getan hatte um IsraelsIsraels willen, all die Mühsal, die sie auf dem Weg getroffen, und dass der HERR sie errettet habe.8 And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the LORD delivered them.4
9 Und JethroJethro freute sich über all das Gute, das der HERR an IsraelIsrael getan, dass er es errettet hatte aus der Hand der Ägypter.9 And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.
10 Und JethroJethro sprach: Gepriesen sei der HERR, der euch errettet hat aus der Hand der Ägypter und aus der Hand des PharaosPharaos, der das Volk errettet hat unter der Hand der Ägypter weg!10 And Jethro said, Blessed be the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
11 Nun weiß ich, dass der HERR größer ist als alle GötterGötter; denn in der Sache, worin sie in Übermut handelten, war er über ihnen.11 Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.
12 Und JethroJethro, der Schwiegervater MosesMoses, nahm ein BrandopferBrandopfer und SchlachtopferSchlachtopfer für GottGott; und AaronAaron und alle Ältesten IsraelsIsraels kamen, um mit dem Schwiegervater MosesMoses zu essen vor dem Angesicht GottesGottes.12 And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.
13 Und es geschah am anderen TagTag, da setzte sich MoseMose, um das Volk zu richten; und das Volk stand bei MoseMose vom MorgenMorgen bis zum AbendAbend. 13 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.
14 Und der Schwiegervater MosesMoses sah alles, was er mit dem Volk tat, und er sprach: Was ist das, das du mit dem Volk tust? Warum sitzt du allein, und alles Volk steht bei dir vom MorgenMorgen bis zum AbendAbend?14 And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?
15 Und MoseMose sprach zu seinem Schwiegervater: Weil das Volk zu mir kommt, um GottGott zu befragen.15 And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:
16 Wenn sie eine Sache haben, so kommt es zu mir, und ich richte zwischen dem einen und dem anderen und teile ihnen die SatzungenSatzungen GottesGottes und seine GesetzeGesetze mit. 16 When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.5
17 Da sprach der Schwiegervater MosesMoses zu ihm: Die Sache ist nicht gut, die du tust;17 And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.
18 du wirst ganz erschlaffen, sowohl du, als auch dieses Volk, das bei dir ist; denn die Sache ist zu schwer für dich, du kannst sie nicht allein ausrichten.18 Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.6
19 Höre nun auf meine Stimme, ich will dir raten, und GottGott wird mit dir sein3: Sei du für das Volk vor GottGott, und bring du die Sachen zu GottGott;19 Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:
20 und erläutere ihnen die SatzungenSatzungen und die GesetzeGesetze, und teile ihnen den Weg mit, auf dem sie wandeln, und das Werk, das sie tun sollen. 20 And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.
21 Du aber ersieh dir aus dem ganzen Volk tüchtige, gottesfürchtige Männer, Männer der WahrheitWahrheit, die den ungerechten GewinnGewinn hassen, und setze sie über sie: Oberste über 1000, Oberste über 100, Oberste über 50 und Oberste über 10,21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
22 dass sie das Volk richten zu aller ZeitZeit; und es geschehe, dass sie jede große Sache vor dich bringen, und dass sie jede kleine Sache selbst richten; so erleichtere es dir, und sie mögen mit dir tragen.22 And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.
23 Wenn du dieses tust, und GottGott es dir gebietet, so wirst du bestehen können, und auch dieses ganze Volk wird in Frieden an seinen Ort kommen.23 If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.
24 Und MoseMose hörte auf die Stimme seines Schwiegervaters und tat alles, was er gesagt hatte.24 So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.
25 Und MoseMose wählte tüchtige Männer aus ganz IsraelIsrael und setzte sie zu Häuptern über das Volk: Oberste über 1000, Oberste über 100, Oberste über 50 und Oberste über 10.25 And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
26 Und sie richteten das Volk zu aller ZeitZeit: Die schwierige Sache brachten sie vor MoseMose, und jede kleine Sache richteten sie selbst.26 And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
27 Und MoseMose ließ seinen Schwiegervater ziehen, und er zog hin in sein Land.27 And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.
