1 Und AhabAhab berichtete der IsebelIsebel alles, was EliaElia getan hatte, und alles, wie er alle ProphetenPropheten mit dem SchwertSchwert getötet hätte.1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2 Da sandte IsebelIsebel einen Boten zu EliaElia und ließ ihm sagen: So sollen mir die GötterGötter tun und so hinzufügen, wenn ich nicht morgen um diese ZeitZeit dein LebenLeben dem LebenLeben eines von ihnen gleich mache! 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
3 Und als er das sah, machte er sich auf und ging fort um seines LebensLebens willen und kam nach BeersebaBeerseba, das zu JudaJuda gehört; und er ließ seinen Knaben dort zurück. 3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 Er selbst aber ging in die WüsteWüste, eine Tagereise weit, und kam und setzte sich unter einen Ginsterstrauch. Und er bat, dass seine SeeleSeele stürbe, und sprach: Es ist genug; nimm nun, HERR, meine SeeleSeele, denn ich bin nicht besser als meine VäterVäter. 4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.1
5 Und er legte sich nieder und schlief ein unter dem Ginsterstrauch. Und siehe da, ein EngelEngel rührte ihn an und sprach zu ihm: Steh auf, iss!5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6 Und als er hinblickte, siehe, da lag zu seinen Häupten ein KuchenKuchen, auf heißen Steinen gebacken, und ein KrugKrug Wasser. Und er aß und trank und legte sich wieder hin. 6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.2
7 Und der EngelEngel des HERRN kam zum zweiten Mal wieder und rührte ihn an und sprach: Steh auf, iss! Denn der Weg ist zu weit für dich.7 And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
8 Und er stand auf und aß und trank, und er ging in der KraftKraft dieser Speise 40 TageTage und 40 Nächte bis an den BergBerg GottesGottes, den HorebHoreb.8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
9 Und er ging dort in die Höhle und übernachtete dort.Und siehe, das WortWort des HERRN geschah zu ihm, und er sprach zu ihm: Was tust du hier, EliaElia? 9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 Und er sprach: Ich habe sehr geeifert für den HERRN, den GottGott der HeerscharenHeerscharen; denn die KinderKinder IsraelIsrael haben deinen BundBund verlassen, deine Altäre niedergerissen und deine ProphetenPropheten mit dem SchwertSchwert getötet; und ich allein bin übriggeblieben, und sie trachten danach, mir das LebenLeben zu nehmen. 10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
11 Und er sprach: Geh hinaus und stelle dich auf den BergBerg vor dem HERRN! Und siehe, der HERR ging vorüber, und ein WindWind, groß und stark, zerriss die BergeBerge und zerschmetterte die Felsen vor dem HERRN her; der HERR war nicht in dem WindWind. Und nach dem WindWind ein ErdbebenErdbeben; der HERR war nicht in dem ErdbebenErdbeben.11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:
12 Und nach dem ErdbebenErdbeben ein FeuerFeuer; der HERR war nicht in dem FeuerFeuer. Und nach dem FeuerFeuer der Ton eines leisen Säuselns.12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
13 Und es geschah, als EliaElia es hörte, da verhüllte er sein Angesicht mit seinem MantelMantel und ging hinaus und stellte sich an den Eingang der Höhle. Und siehe, eine Stimme erging an ihn, die sprach: Was tust du hier, EliaElia?13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

15 Und der HERR sprach zu ihm: Geh, kehre zurück deines Weges, nach der WüsteWüste von DamaskusDamaskus; und wenn du angekommen bist, so salbe HasaelHasael zum König über SyrienSyrien. 15 And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:
16 Und JehuJehu, den SohnSohn NimsisNimsis, sollst du zum König über IsraelIsrael salben; und ElisaElisa, den SohnSohn SaphatsSaphats, von Abel-MeholaAbel-Mehola, sollst du zum ProphetenPropheten salben an deiner statt.16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.3
17 Und es soll geschehen: Wer dem SchwertSchwert HasaelsHasaels entkommt, den wird JehuJehu töten; und wer dem SchwertSchwert JehusJehus entkommt, den wird ElisaElisa töten.17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
18 Aber ich habe 7000 in IsraelIsrael übriggelassen1, alle die Knie, die sich nicht vor dem BaalBaal gebeugt haben, und jeden Mund, der ihn nicht geküsst hat. 18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.4
19 Und er ging von dort weg und fand ElisaElisa, den SohnSohn SaphatsSaphats, der gerade pflügte mit zwölf JochJoch RindernRindern vor sich her, und er war bei dem zwölften; und EliaElia ging zu ihm hin und warf seinen MantelMantel auf ihn. 19 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.
20 Und er verließ die RinderRinder und lief EliaElia nach und sprach: Lass mich doch meinen VaterVater und meine MutterMutter küssen, so will ich dir nachfolgen. Und er sprach zu ihm: Geh, kehre zurück! Denn was habe ich dir getan?20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?5
21 Und er kehrte von ihm zurück und nahm das JochJoch RinderRinder und schlachtete es, und mit dem Geschirr der RinderRinder kochte er das FleischFleisch derselben und gab es den Leuten, und sie aßen; und er machte sich auf und folgte EliaElia nach und diente ihm.21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
