1 Und1 es geschah danach, da starb NahasNahas, der König der KinderKinder AmmonAmmon; und sein SohnSohn wurde König an seiner statt.1 Now it came to pass after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his stead.
2 Und DavidDavid sprach: Ich will Güte erweisen an HanunHanun, dem SohnSohn NahasNahas', denn sein VaterVater hat Güte an mir erwiesen. Und DavidDavid sandte Boten, um ihn wegen seines VatersVaters zu trösten. Und die KnechteKnechte DavidsDavids kamen in das Land der KinderKinder AmmonAmmon zu HanunHanun, um ihn zu trösten.2 And David said, I will shew kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father shewed kindness to me. And David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of David came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
3 Da sprachen die Fürsten der KinderKinder AmmonAmmon zu HanunHanun: Ehrt wohl DavidDavid deinen VaterVater in deinen AugenAugen, dass er TrösterTröster zu dir gesandt hat? Sind nicht seine KnechteKnechte zu dir gekommen, um das Land zu erforschen und es umzukehren und auszukundschaften?3 But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that David doth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters unto thee? are not his servants come unto thee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?1
4 Da nahm HanunHanun die KnechteKnechte DavidsDavids und ließ sie scheren und ihre OberkleiderOberkleider zur Hälfte abschneiden bis ans Gesäß2; und er entließ sie.4 Wherefore Hanun took David's servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the midst hard by their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 Und man ging und3 berichtete DavidDavid wegen der Männer. Da sandte er ihnen entgegen, denn die Männer schämten sich sehr4; und der König ließ ihnen sagen: Bleibt in JerichoJericho, bis euer BartBart gewachsen ist, dann kommt zurück.5 Then there went certain, and told David how the men were served. And he sent to meet them: for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.
6 Als nun die KinderKinder AmmonAmmon sahen, dass sie sich bei DavidDavid stinkend gemacht hatten, da sandten HanunHanun und die KinderKinder AmmonAmmon 1000 TalenteTalente SilberSilber, um sich aus Mesopotamien5 und aus Aram-MaakaAram-Maaka und aus ZobaZoba WagenWagen und Reiter anzuwerben.6 And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syriamaachah, and out of Zobah.2
7 Und sie warben sich 32000 WagenWagen an, und den König von MaakaMaaka mit seinem Volk; und sie kamen und lagerten sich vor MedebaMedeba. Und die KinderKinder AmmonAmmon versammelten sich aus ihren Städten und kamen zum KampfKampf.7 So they hired thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.
8 Und als DavidDavid es hörte, sandte er JoabJoab hin und das ganze Heer, die Helden.8 And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
9 Und die KinderKinder AmmonAmmon zogen aus und stellten sich am Eingang der Stadt in Schlachtordnung auf; und die KönigeKönige, die gekommen waren, waren für sich auf dem Feld.9 And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array before the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field.
10 Und als JoabJoab sah, dass der Kampf6 von vorn und von hinten gegen ihn gerichtet war, da erwählte er von allen Auserlesenen IsraelsIsraels und stellte sich auf, den Syrern gegenüber; 10 Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose out of all the choice of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.34
11 und das übrige Volk übergab er der Hand seines BrudersBruders AbisaiAbisai, und sie stellten sich auf, den KindernKindern AmmonAmmon gegenüber.11 And the rest of the people he delivered unto the hand of Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in array against the children of Ammon.5
12 Und er sprach: Wenn die Syrer mir zu stark sind, so sollst du mir Hilfe leisten; und wenn die KinderKinder AmmonAmmon dir zu stark sind, so will ich dir helfen.12 And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will help thee.
13 Sei stark und lass uns stark sein für unser Volk und für die Städte unseres GottesGottes! Und der HERR wird tun, was gut ist in seinen AugenAugen.13 Be of good courage, and let us behave ourselves valiantly for our people, and for the cities of our God: and let the LORD do that which is good in his sight.
14 Da rückte JoabJoab und das Volk, das bei ihm war, vor, den Syrern entgegen zum KampfKampf; und sie flohen vor ihm.14 So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh before the Syrians unto the battle; and they fled before him.
15 Und als die KinderKinder AmmonAmmon sahen, dass die Syrer geflohen waren, da flohen auch sie vor seinem BruderBruder AbisaiAbisai und zogen sich in die Stadt zurück. Und JoabJoab kam nach JerusalemJerusalem.15 And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.
16 Und als die Syrer sahen, dass sie vor IsraelIsrael geschlagen waren, da sandten sie Boten hin und ließen die Syrer ausziehen, die jenseits des Stromes waren; und SchophakSchophak, der Heeroberste HadadesersHadadesers, zog vor ihnen her. 16 And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians that were beyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them.67
17 Und es wurde DavidDavid berichtet; da versammelte er ganz IsraelIsrael und ging über den JordanJordan und kam gegen sie; und er stellte sich gegen sie auf. Und DavidDavid stellte sich in Schlachtordnung auf, den Syrern gegenüber; und sie kämpften mit ihm. 17 And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel, and passed over Jordan, and came upon them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
18 Und die Syrer flohen vor IsraelIsrael, und DavidDavid tötete von den Syrern 7000 Wagenkämpfer7 und 40000 MannMann FußvolkFußvolk; auch SchophakSchophak, den Heerobersten, tötete er. 18 But the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians seven thousand men which fought in chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the host.
19 Und als die KnechteKnechte HadadesersHadadesers sahen, dass sie vor IsraelIsrael geschlagen waren, da machten sie Frieden mit DavidDavid und dienten ihm. Und die Syrer wollten den KindernKindern AmmonAmmon nicht mehr helfen.19 And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.
