1 Und als EsraEsra betetebetete und als er bekannte, weinend und vor dem HausHaus GottesGottes hingestreckt, versammelte sich zu ihm aus IsraelIsrael eine sehr große VersammlungVersammlung von Männern und Frauen und KindernKindern; denn das Volk weinte mit vielem Weinen. 1 Now when Ezra had prayed, and when he had confessed, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there assembled unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people wept very sore.1
2 Und SchekanjaSchekanja, der SohnSohn JechielsJechiels, von den Söhnen ElamsElams, hob an und sprach zu EsraEsra: Wir haben treulos gehandelt gegen unseren GottGott und haben fremde Frauen aus den Völkern des Landes heimgeführt; nun aber ist noch HoffnungHoffnung für IsraelIsrael bezüglich dieser Sache.2 And Shechaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have taken strange wives of the people of the land: yet now there is hope in Israel concerning this thing.
3 So lasst uns jetzt einen BundBund machen mit unserem GottGott, dass wir alle Frauen und die von ihnen geboren sind hinaustun, nach dem RatRat meines HerrnHerrn1 und derer, die vor dem Gebot unseres GottesGottes zittern; und es soll nach dem GesetzGesetz gehandelt werden. 3 Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.2
4 Steh auf, dir liegt die Sache auf; und wir werden mit dir sein. Sei stark und handle! 4 Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee: be of good courage, and do it.
5 Da stand EsraEsra auf, und er ließ die Obersten der PriesterPriester, der LevitenLeviten und von ganz IsraelIsrael schwören, nach diesem WortWort zu tun. Und sie schwuren. 5 Then arose Ezra, and made the chief priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they should do according to this word. And they sware.
6 Und EsraEsra stand auf vor2 dem HausHaus GottesGottes und ging in die Zelle JochanansJochanans, des SohnesSohnes EljaschibsEljaschibs; und er ging dahin, er aß kein BrotBrot und trank kein Wasser, denn er trauerte über die Treulosigkeit der Weggeführten. 6 Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Johanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water: for he mourned because of the transgression of them that had been carried away.
7 Und sie ließen durch JudaJuda und JerusalemJerusalem einen RufRuf ergehen an alle KinderKinder der WegführungWegführung, dass sie sich nach JerusalemJerusalem versammeln sollten.7 And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;
8 Und jeder, der innerhalb von drei Tagen nicht käme, nach dem RatRat der Obersten und Ältesten, dessen ganze Habe sollte verbannt3 und er selbst aus der VersammlungVersammlung der Weggeführten ausgeschlossen werden.8 And that whosoever would not come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the congregation of those that had been carried away.3
9 Da versammelten sich alle Männer von JudaJuda und BenjaminBenjamin innerhalb von drei Tagen nach JerusalemJerusalem ... das war der 9. Monat, am 20. des Monats. Und das ganze Volk saß auf dem Platz des Hauses GottesGottes, zitternd um der Sache willen und infolge der Regengüsse. 9 Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month; and all the people sat in the street of the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.4
10 Da stand EsraEsra, der PriesterPriester, auf und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr habt treulos gehandelt und habt fremde Frauen heimgeführt, um die SchuldSchuld IsraelsIsraels zu vermehren.10 And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have transgressed, and have taken strange wives, to increase the trespass of Israel.5
11 So legt nun BekenntnisBekenntnis ab vor dem HERRN, dem GottGott eurer VäterVäter; und tut sein Wohlgefallen und sondert euch ab von den Völkern des Landes und von den fremden Frauen!11 Now therefore make confession unto the LORD God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives.
12 Und die ganze VersammlungVersammlung antwortete und sprach mit lauter Stimme: Nach deinen Worten, so liegt es uns auf zu tun! 12 Then all the congregation answered and said with a loud voice, As thou hast said, so must we do.
13 Aber das Volk ist zahlreich; und es ist die Regenzeit, so dass man nicht draußen zu stehen vermag; auch ist es nicht ein Geschäft von einem TagTag oder von zweien, denn viele unter uns haben in dieser Sache übertreten4. 13 But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two: for we are many that have transgressed in this thing.6
14 Lass doch unsere Obersten für die ganze VersammlungVersammlung dastehen. Und alle, die in unseren Städten sind, die fremde Frauen heimgeführt haben, mögen zu bestimmten ZeitenZeiten kommen, und mit ihnen die Ältesten jeder Stadt und ihre RichterRichter, so lange diese Sache währt, bis die Glut des ZornsZorns unseres GottesGottes von uns abgewendet werde.14 Let now our rulers of all the congregation stand, and let all them which have taken strange wives in our cities come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God for this matter be turned from us.7
15 Nur JonathanJonathan, der SohnSohn AsaelsAsaels, und JachsejaJachseja, der SohnSohn TikwasTikwas, traten dagegen auf; und MeschullamMeschullam und SchabbetaiSchabbetai, der LevitLevit, standen ihnen bei.15 Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahaziah the son of Tikvah were employed about this matter: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.8
16 Und die KinderKinder der WegführungWegführung taten so. Und es wurden ausgesondert EsraEsra, der PriesterPriester, und Männer, Häupter der VäterVäter nach ihren Vaterhäusern, und zwar alle mit Namen5; und sie setzten sich nieder am 1. TagTag des 10. Monats, um die Sache zu untersuchen. 16 And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, with certain chief of the fathers, after the house of their fathers, and all of them by their names, were separated, and sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
17 Und sie kamen bis zum 1. TagTag des 1. Monats mit allem zu Ende, hinsichtlich der Männer, die fremde Frauen heimgeführt hatten. 17 And they made an end with all the men that had taken strange wives by the first day of the first month.
18 Und es fanden sich unter den Söhnen der PriesterPriester, die fremde Frauen heimgeführt hatten, folgende: von den Söhnen JeschuasJeschuas, des SohnesSohnes JozadaksJozadaks, und seinen BrüdernBrüdern: MaasejaMaaseja und ElieserElieser und JaribJarib und GedaljaGedalja. 18 And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken strange wives: namely, of the sons of Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren; Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.
19 Und sie gaben ihre Hand darauf, dass sie ihre Frauen hinaustun und einen Widder vom Kleinvieh für ihre SchuldSchuld entrichten wollten6. –19 And they gave their hands that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their trespass.
20 Und von den Söhnen Immers: HananiHanani und SebadjaSebadja;20 And of the sons of Immer; Hanani, and Zebadiah.
21 und von den Söhnen HarimsHarims: MaasejaMaaseja und ElijaElija und SchemajaSchemaja und JechielJechiel und UssijaUssija;21 And of the sons of Harim; Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.
22 und von den Söhnen PaschchursPaschchurs: EljoenaiEljoenai, MaasejaMaaseja, IsmaelIsmael, NethaneelNethaneel, JosabadJosabad und ElasaElasa. –22 And of the sons of Pashur; Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethaneel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
23 Und von den LevitenLeviten: JosabadJosabad und SimeiSimei und KelajaKelaja (das ist KelitaKelita), PetachjaPetachja, JudaJuda und ElieserElieser. –23 Also of the Levites; Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah, (the same is Kelita,) Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
24 Und von den Sängern: EljaschibEljaschib. – Und von den TorhüternTorhütern: SchallumSchallum und TelemTelem und UriUri. –24 Of the singers also; Eliashib: and of the porters; Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.
25 Und von IsraelIsrael: von den Söhnen ParhoschParhosch': RamjaRamja und JissijaJissija und MalkijaMalkija und MijaminMijamin und EleasarEleasar und MalkijaMalkija und BenajaBenaja;25 Moreover of Israel: of the sons of Parosh; Ramiah, and Jeziah, and Malchiah, and Miamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.
26 und von den Söhnen ElamsElams: MattanjaMattanja, SekarjaSekarja und JechielJechiel und AbdiAbdi und JeremotJeremot und ElijaElija;26 And of the sons of Elam; Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Eliah.
27 und von den Söhnen SattusSattus: EljoenaiEljoenai, EljaschibEljaschib, MattanjaMattanja und JeremotJeremot und SabadSabad und AsisaAsisa;27 And of the sons of Zattu; Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.
28 und von den Söhnen BebaisBebais: JochananJochanan, HananjaHananja, SabbaiSabbai, Atlai;28 Of the sons also of Bebai; Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, and Athlai.
29 und von den Söhnen BanisBanis: MeschullamMeschullam, MallukMalluk und AdajaAdaja, JaschubJaschub und SchealScheal, JeremotJeremot;29 And of the sons of Bani; Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, and Ramoth.

44 Alle diese hatten fremde Frauen genommen, und es gab unter ihnen Frauen, die KinderKinder geboren hatten.44 All these had taken strange wives: and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
