1 Es war aber ein MenschMensch aus den PharisäernPharisäern, sein Name NikodemusNikodemus, ein ObersterOberster der Juden. 1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2 Dieser kam zu ihm bei NachtNacht und sprach zu ihm: RabbiRabbi, wir wissen, dass du ein LehrerLehrer bist, von GottGott gekommen, denn niemand kann diese ZeichenZeichen tun, die du tust, es sei denn GottGott mit ihm. 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3 JesusJesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Es sei denn, dass jemand von neuem1 geboren werde, so kann er das ReichReich GottesGottes nicht sehen. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.1
4 NikodemusNikodemus spricht zu ihm: Wie kann ein MenschMensch geboren werden, wenn er alt ist? Kann er etwa zum zweiten Mal in den Leib seiner MutterMutter eingehen und geboren werden?4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
5 JesusJesus antwortete: Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Es sei denn dass jemand aus Wasser und GeistGeist geboren werde, so kann er nicht in das ReichReich GottesGottes eingehen. 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6 Was aus dem FleischFleisch geboren ist, ist FleischFleisch, und was aus dem GeistGeist geboren ist, ist GeistGeist.6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7 Verwundere dich nicht, dass ich dir sagte: Ihr müsst von neuem2 geboren werden.7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.2
8 Der WindWind weht, wo er will, und du hörst sein Sausen, aber du weißt nicht, woher er kommt und wohin er geht; so ist jeder, der aus dem GeistGeist geboren ist.8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
9 NikodemusNikodemus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wie kann dies geschehen?9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
10 JesusJesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Du bist der LehrerLehrer IsraelsIsraels und weißt dieses nicht? 10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Wir reden, was wir wissen, und bezeugen, was wir gesehen haben, und unser ZeugnisZeugnis nehmt ihr nicht an.11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12 Wenn ich euch das IrdischeIrdische gesagt habe, und ihr glaubt nicht, wie werdet ihr glauben, wenn ich euch das Himmlische sage?12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13 Und niemand ist hinaufgestiegen in den HimmelHimmel als nur der aus dem HimmelHimmel herabgestiegen ist, der SohnSohn des Menschen, der im HimmelHimmel ist. 13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14 Und wie MoseMose in der WüsteWüste die SchlangeSchlange erhöhte, so muss der SohnSohn des Menschen erhöht werden,14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15 damit jeder, der an ihn glaubt, [nicht verloren gehe, sondern] ewiges LebenLeben habe.15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 Denn so hat GottGott die WeltWelt geliebt, dass er seinen eingeborenen SohnSohn gab, damit jeder, der an ihn glaubt, nicht verloren gehe, sondern ewiges LebenLeben habe.16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 Denn GottGott hat seinen SohnSohn nicht in die WeltWelt gesandt, damit er die WeltWelt richte, sondern damit die WeltWelt durch ihn errettet werde.17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 Wer an ihn glaubt, wird nicht gerichtet; wer aber nicht glaubt, ist schon gerichtet, weil er nicht geglaubt hat an den NamenNamen des eingeborenen SohnesSohnes GottesGottes.18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 Dies aber ist das GerichtGericht, dass das LichtLicht in die WeltWelt gekommen ist, und die Menschen haben die FinsternisFinsternis mehr geliebt als das LichtLicht, denn ihre WerkeWerke waren böse.19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 Denn jeder, der Arges tut, hasst das LichtLicht und kommt nicht zu dem LichtLicht, damit seine WerkeWerke nicht bloßgestellt3 werden; 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.3
21 wer aber die WahrheitWahrheit tut, kommt zu dem LichtLicht, damit seine WerkeWerke offenbar werden, dass sie in GottGott gewirkt sind.21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
22 Nach diesem kam JesusJesus mit seinen JüngerJünger in das Land JudäaJudäa, und dort hielt er sich mit ihnen auf und taufte. 22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judaea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
23 Aber auch JohannesJohannes taufte in Änon, nahe bei SalimSalim, weil viel Wasser dort war; und sie kamen hin und wurden getauft.23 And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
24 Denn JohannesJohannes war noch nicht ins GefängnisGefängnis geworfen. 24 For John was not yet cast into prison.
25 Es entstand nun eine Streitfrage unter den JüngernJüngern des JohannesJohannes mit einem Juden über die ReinigungReinigung.25 Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying.
26 Und sie kamen zu JohannesJohannes und sprachen zu ihm: RabbiRabbi, der jenseits des JordanJordan bei dir war, dem du ZeugnisZeugnis gegeben hast, siehe, der tauft, und alle kommen zu ihm.26 And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
27 JohannesJohannes antwortete und sprach: Ein MenschMensch kann nichts empfangen4, es sei ihm denn aus dem HimmelHimmel gegeben. 27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.4
28 Ihr selbst gebt mir ZeugnisZeugnis, dass ich sagte: Ich bin nicht der ChristusChristus, sondern dass ich vor ihm hergesandt bin.28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29 Der die BrautBraut hat, ist der BräutigamBräutigam; der Freund des BräutigamsBräutigams aber, der dasteht und ihn hört, ist hoch erfreut über die Stimme des BräutigamsBräutigams; diese meine FreudeFreude nun ist erfüllt.29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
30 Er muss wachsen, ich aber abnehmen.30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
31 Der von oben kommt, ist über allen5; der von der6 ErdeErde ist, ist von der ErdeErde und redet von der ErdeErde7. Der vom8 HimmelHimmel kommt, ist über allen9,31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
32 [und] was er gesehen und gehört hat, dieses bezeugt er; und sein ZeugnisZeugnis nimmt niemand an.32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
33 Wer sein ZeugnisZeugnis angenommen hat10, hat besiegelt, dass GottGott wahrhaftig ist.33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
34 Denn der, den GottGott gesandt hat, redet die WorteWorte GottesGottes; denn GottGott gibt den GeistGeist nicht nach MaßMaß.34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
35 Der VaterVater liebt den SohnSohn und hat alles in seine Hand gegeben.35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
36 Wer an den SohnSohn glaubt, hat ewiges LebenLeben; wer aber dem SohnSohn nicht glaubt11, wird das LebenLeben nicht sehen, sondern der ZornZorn GottesGottes bleibt auf ihm.36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
