1 WeheWehe der Blutstadt, ganz erfüllt mit Lüge und Gewalttat! Das Rauben hört nicht auf.1 Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;1
2 Peitschenknall und Getöse des Rädergerassels und jagende PferdePferde und aufspringende WagenWagen;2 The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.
3 heransprengende Reiter und flammendes SchwertSchwert und blitzender SpeerSpeer und Mengen Erschlagener und Haufen von Toten und Leichen ohne Ende; man stolpert über ihre Leichen! 3 The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and there is a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and there is none end of their corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:2
4 wegen der vielen Hurereien der anmutvollen HureHure, der Zauberkundigen, die NationenNationen verkauft mit ihren Hurereien und GeschlechterGeschlechter mit ihren Zaubereien. 4 Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.
5 Siehe, ich will an dich, spricht der HERR der HeerscharenHeerscharen; und ich werde deine Säume1 aufdecken über dein Angesicht und die NationenNationen deine Blöße sehen lassen und die Königreiche deine Schande.5 Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.
6 Und ich werde Unrat auf dich werfen und dich verächtlich machen und dich zur Schau stellen.6 And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.
7 Und es wird geschehen, jeder, der dich sieht, wird von dir fliehen und sprechen: NiniveNinive ist verwüstet! Wer wird ihr Beileid bezeigen? Woher soll ich dir TrösterTröster suchen?7 And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?
8 Bist du vorzüglicher als No-Ammon2, die an den Strömen wohnte, Wasser rings um sich her? Das MeerMeer3 war ihr Bollwerk, aus MeerMeer bestand ihre Mauer.8 Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, that had the waters round about it, whose rampart was the sea, and her wall was from the sea?3
9 Äthiopien war ihre Stärke, und Ägypter in zahlloser Menge4; PutPut und LibyenLibyen waren zu ihrer5 Hilfe.9 Ethiopia and Egypt were her strength, and it was infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.4
10 Auch sie ist in die Verbannung, in die GefangenschaftGefangenschaft gezogen; auch ihre KinderKinder wurden zerschmettert an allen Straßenecken; und über ihre Vornehmen warf man das Los, und alle ihre Großen wurden mit KettenKetten gefesselt.10 Yet was she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
11 Auch du sollst betrunken werden, sollst verborgen sein6; auch du wirst eine ZufluchtZuflucht suchen vor dem Feind.11 Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.
12 Alle deine FestungenFestungen sind Feigenbäume mit Frühfeigen: Wenn sie geschüttelt werden, so fallen sie den Essenden in den Mund.12 All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.
13 Siehe, dein Volk ist zu Frauen geworden in deiner Mitte; deinen Feinden sind die ToreTore deines Landes weit aufgetan, FeuerFeuer verzehrt deine RiegelRiegel. 13 Behold, thy people in the midst of thee are women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.
14 Schöpfe dir Wasser für die Belagerung; bessere deine Festungswerke aus! Tritt den Ton und stampfe den Lehm, stelle den ZiegelofenZiegelofen wieder her!14 Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.
15 Dort wird das FeuerFeuer dich verzehren, wird das SchwertSchwert dich ausrotten, dich verzehren wie der JelekJelek7. Vermehre dich wie der JelekJelek, vermehre dich wie die HeuschreckeHeuschrecke! 15 There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.
16 Du hast deiner Kaufleute mehr gemacht als die Sterne des HimmelsHimmels: der JelekJelek fällt raubend ein8 und fliegt davon. 16 Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away.5
17 Deine Auserlesenen sind wie die Heuschrecken und deine Kriegsobersten wie Heuschreckenschwärme, die sich an den Zäunen lagern am TagTag des Frostes; geht die SonneSonne auf, so entfliehen sie, und man weiß ihre Stätte nicht; – wo sind sie?17 Thy crowned are as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, but when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they are.
18 Deine Hirten schlafen, König von AssyrienAssyrien, deine Edlen liegen da; dein Volk ist auf den Bergen zerstreut, und niemand sammelt es.18 Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell in the dust: thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth them.6
19 Keine Linderung für deine Wunde, dein Schlag ist tödlich! Alle, die die Nachricht von dir hören, klatschen über dich in die Hände; denn über wen ist nicht deine Bosheit beständig ergangen?19 There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?7
