1 Geliebte, glaubt nicht jedem GeistGeist, sondern prüft die GeisterGeister, ob sie aus GottGott sind; denn viele falsche ProphetenPropheten sind in die WeltWelt ausgegangen.1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hieran erkennt ihr den GeistGeist GottesGottes: Jeder GeistGeist, der JesusJesus ChristusChristus im FleischFleisch gekommen bekennt, ist aus GottGott;2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 und jeder GeistGeist, der nicht JesusJesus ChristusChristus im FleischFleisch gekommen bekennt, ist nicht aus GottGott; und dies ist der GeistGeist des AntichristsAntichrists1, von dem ihr gehört habt, dass er komme, und jetzt ist er schon in der WeltWelt.3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ihr seid aus GottGott, KinderKinder, und habt sie2 überwunden, weil der, der in euch ist, größer ist als der, der in der WeltWelt ist.4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 Sie sind aus der WeltWelt, deswegen reden sie aus3 der WeltWelt, und die WeltWelt hört sie.5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6 Wir sind aus GottGott; wer GottGott kennt, hört uns; wer nicht aus GottGott ist, hört uns nicht. Hieraus erkennen wir den GeistGeist der WahrheitWahrheit und den GeistGeist des Irrtums.6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7 Geliebte, lasst uns einander lieben, denn die Liebe ist aus GottGott; und jeder, der liebt, ist aus GottGott geboren und erkennt GottGott.7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 Wer nicht liebt, hat GottGott nicht erkannt, denn GottGott ist Liebe.8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9 Hierin ist die Liebe GottesGottes zu4 uns offenbart worden, dass GottGott seinen eingeborenen SohnSohn in die WeltWelt gesandt hat, damit wir durch ihn leben möchten.9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Hierin ist die Liebe: nicht dass wir GottGott geliebt haben, sondern dass er uns geliebt und seinen SohnSohn gesandt hat als eine SühnungSühnung für unsere Sünden.10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Geliebte, wenn GottGott uns so geliebt hat, so sind auch wir schuldig, einander zu lieben.11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 Niemand hat GottGott jemals gesehen. Wenn wir einander lieben, so bleibt GottGott in uns, und seine Liebe ist vollendet in uns.12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hieran erkennen wir, dass wir in ihm bleiben und er in uns, dass er uns von seinem GeistGeist gegeben hat.13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14 Und wir haben gesehen und bezeugen, dass der VaterVater den SohnSohn gesandt hat als HeilandHeiland der WeltWelt.14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Wer bekennt, dass JesusJesus der SohnSohn GottesGottes ist, in ihm bleibt GottGott und er in GottGott. 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
16 Und wir haben erkannt und geglaubt die Liebe, die GottGott zu uns hat. GottGott ist Liebe, und wer in der Liebe bleibt, bleibt in GottGott und GottGott in ihm.16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
17 Hierin ist die Liebe mit uns vollendet worden, damit wir Freimütigkeit haben an dem TagTag des GerichtsGerichts, dass, wie er ist, auch wir sind in dieser WeltWelt. 17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.1
18 Furcht ist nicht in der Liebe, sondern die vollkommene Liebe treibt die Furcht aus, denn die Furcht hat Pein. Wer sich aber fürchtet, ist nicht vollendet in der Liebe.18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
19 Wir lieben, weil er uns zuerst geliebt hat.19 We love him, because he first loved us.
20 Wenn jemand sagt: Ich liebe GottGott, und hasst seinen BruderBruder, so ist er ein Lügner. Denn wer seinen BruderBruder nicht liebt, den er gesehen hat, wie kann der GottGott lieben, den er nicht gesehen hat?20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
21 Und dieses Gebot haben wir von ihm, dass, wer GottGott liebt, auch seinen BruderBruder liebe.21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
