1 In the third month after the departure of the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai:1 Im dritten Monat nach dem AuszugeAuszuge der KinderKinder IsraelIsrael aus dem Lande Ägypten, an diesem selbigen TageTage kamen sie in die WüsteWüste SinaiSinai:
2 they departed from Rephidim, and came into the wilderness of Sinai, and encamped in the wilderness; and Israel encamped there before the mountain.2 Sie brachen auf von RephidimRephidim und kamen in die WüsteWüste SinaiSinai und lagerten sich in der WüsteWüste; und IsraelIsrael lagerte sich daselbst dem BergeBerge gegenüber.
3 And Moses went up to God, and Jehovah called to him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:3 Und MoseMose stieg hinauf zu GottGott; und JehovaJehova rief ihm vom BergeBerge zu und sprach: So sollst du zum HauseHause JakobJakob sprechen und den KindernKindern IsraelIsrael kundtun:
4 Ye have seen what I have done to the Egyptians, and how I have borne you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.4 Ihr habt gesehen, was ich an den Ägyptern getan habe, wie ich euch getragen auf AdlersAdlers Flügeln und euch zu mir gebracht habe.
5 And now, if ye will hearken to my voice indeed and keep my covenant, then shall ye be my own possession out of all the peoples--for all the earth is mine--5 Und nun, wenn ihr fleißig auf meine Stimme hören und meinen BundBund halten werdet, so sollt ihr mein Eigentum sein aus1 allen Völkern; denn die ganze ErdeErde ist mein;
6 and ye shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak to the children of Israel.6 und ihr sollt mir ein Königreich von PriesternPriestern und eine heilige Nation sein. Das sind die WorteWorte, die du zu den KindernKindern IsraelIsrael reden sollst.
7 And Moses came and called the elders of the people, and laid before the mall these words which Jehovah had commanded him.7 Und MoseMose kam und rief die Ältesten des Volkes und legte ihnen alle diese WorteWorte vor, die JehovaJehova ihm geboten hatte.
8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that Jehovah has spoken will we do! And Moses brought the words of the people back to Jehovah.8 Da antwortete das ganze Volk insgesamt und sprach: Alles was JehovaJehova geredet hat, wollen wir tun! Und MoseMose brachte die WorteWorte des Volkes zu JehovaJehova zurück.
9 And Jehovah said to Moses, Lo, I will come to thee in the cloud's thick darkness, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee also for ever. And Moses told the words of the people to Jehovah.9 Und JehovaJehova sprach zu MoseMose: Siehe, ich werde zu dir kommen im Dunkel des Gewölks, damit das Volk höre, wenn ich mit dir rede, und dir auch glaube ewiglich. Und MoseMose tat JehovaJehova die WorteWorte des Volkes kund.
10 And Jehovah said to Moses, Go to the people, and hallow them to-day and to-morrow, and let them wash their clothes;10 Und JehovaJehova sprach zu MoseMose: Gehe zum Volke und heilige sie heute und morgen, und daß sie ihre KleiderKleider waschen;
11 and let them be ready for the third day; for on the third day Jehovah will come down before the eyes of all the people on mount Sinai.11 und sie seien bereit auf den dritten TagTag; denn am dritten TageTage wird JehovaJehova vor den AugenAugen des ganzen Volkes auf den BergBerg SinaiSinai herabsteigen.
12 And set bounds round about the people, saying, Take heed to yourselves, not to go up unto the mountain nor touch the border of it: whatever toucheth the mountain shall certainly be put to death:12 Und mache eine Grenze um das Volk ringsum und sprich: Hütet euch, auf den BergBerg zu steigen und sein Äußerstes anzurühren; alles was den BergBerg anrührt, soll gewißlich getötet werden
13 not a hand shall touch it, but it shall certainly be stoned, or shot through; whether it be a beast or a man, it shall not live. When the long drawn note of the trumpet soundeth, they shall come up to the mountain.13 - keine Hand soll ihn anrühren - denn es soll gewißlich gesteinigt oder erschossen2 werden; ob ViehVieh oder MenschMensch, es darf nicht leben. Wenn das Lärmhorn3 anhaltend ertönt, sollen sie gegen den BergBerg hinansteigen.
14 And Moses came down from the mountain to the people, and hallowed the people; and they washed their clothes.14 Und MoseMose stieg vom BergeBerge zu dem Volke hinab; und er heiligte das Volk, und sie wuschen ihre KleiderKleider.
15 And he said to the people, Be ready for the third day; do not come near your wives.15 Und er sprach zu dem Volke: Seid bereit auf den dritten TagTag; nahet nicht zum Weibe.
16 And it came to pass on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings and a heavy cloud on the mountain, and the sound of the trumpet exceeding loud; and the whole people that was in the camp trembled.16 Und es geschah am dritten TageTage, als es MorgenMorgen war, da waren DonnerDonner und Blitze und eine schwere WolkeWolke auf dem BergeBerge und ein sehr starker Posaunenschall; und das ganze Volk zitterte, das im LagerLager war.
17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the foot of the mountain.17 Und MoseMose führte das Volk aus dem LagerLager hinaus, GottGott entgegen; und sie stellten sich auf am Fuße des BergesBerges.
18 And the whole of mount Sinai smoked, because Jehovah descended on it in fire; and its smoke ascended as the smoke of a furnace; and the whole mountain shook greatly.18 Und der ganze BergBerg SinaiSinai rauchte, darum, daß JehovaJehova auf ihn herabstieg im FeuerFeuer; und sein Rauch stieg auf, wie der Rauch eines SchmelzofensSchmelzofens, und der ganze BergBerg bebte sehr.
19 And the sound of the trumpet increased and became exceeding loud; Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.19 Und der Posaunenschall wurde fort und fort stärker; MoseMose redete, und GottGott antwortete ihm mit einer Stimme4.
20 And Jehovah came down on mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain; and Jehovah called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.20 Und JehovaJehova stieg auf den BergBerg SinaiSinai herab, auf den Gipfel des BergesBerges; und JehovaJehova rief MoseMose auf den Gipfel des BergesBerges, und MoseMose stieg hinauf.
21 And Jehovah said to Moses, Go down, testify to the people that they break not through to Jehovah to gaze, and many of them perish.21 Und JehovaJehova sprach zu MoseMose: Steige hinab, warne das Volk, daß sie nicht zu JehovaJehova durchbrechen, um zu schauen, und viele von ihnen fallen.
22 And the priests also, who come near to Jehovah, shall hallow themselves, lest Jehovah break forth on them.22 Und auch die PriesterPriester, die zu JehovaJehova nahen, sollen sich heiligen, daß JehovaJehova nicht in sie einbreche.
23 And Moses said to Jehovah, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai; for thou hast testified to us, saying, Set bounds about the mountain, and hallow it.23 Und MoseMose sprach zu JehovaJehova: Das Volk wird den BergBerg SinaiSinai nicht ersteigen können; denn du hast uns ja gewarnt und gesagt: Mache eine Grenze um den BergBerg und heilige ihn.
24 And Jehovah said to him, Go, descend, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee; but the priests and the people shall not break through to go up to Jehovah, lest he break forth on them.24 Und JehovaJehova sprach zu ihm: Gehe, steige hinab, und du sollst heraufkommen, du und AaronAaron mit dir; aber die PriesterPriester und das Volk sollen nicht durchbrechen, um zu JehovaJehova hinaufzusteigen, daß er nicht in sie einbreche.
25 So Moses went down to the people, and told them.25 Da stieg MoseMose zu dem Volke hinab und sagte es ihnen.
