1 When Jehovah thy God hath cut off the nations whose land Jehovah thy God giveth thee, and thou hast dispossessed them, and dwellest in their cities and in their houses,1 Wenn JehovaJehova, dein GottGott, die NationenNationen ausrotten wird, deren Land JehovaJehova, dein GottGott, dir gibt, und du sie austreibst und in ihren Städten und in ihren Häusern wohnst:
2 thou shalt separate three cities for thyself in the midst of thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess.2 so sollst du dir drei Städte aussondern inmitten deines Landes, das JehovaJehova, dein GottGott, dir gibt, es zu besitzen.
3 Thou shalt prepare thee the way, and divide the territory of thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, so that every slayer may flee thither.3 Du sollst dir den Weg dahin zurichten, und das Gebiet deines Landes, das JehovaJehova, dein GottGott, dir als ErbteilErbteil geben wird, in drei Teile teilen; und das soll geschehen, damit jeder Totschläger dahin fliehe.
4 And this is the case of the slayer who shall flee thither that he may live: he that smiteth his neighbour unwittingly, whom he hated not previously;4 Und dies ist die Sache mit dem Totschläger, der dahin fliehen soll, damit er am LebenLeben bleibe: wer seinen Nächsten unabsichtlich1 erschlägt, und er haßte ihn vordem nicht,
5 as when he goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the iron slippeth from the handle, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; such an one shall flee unto one of these cities, and live;5 wie etwa wenn jemand2 mit seinem Nächsten in den WaldWald geht, um HolzHolz zu hauen, und seine Hand holt aus mit der AxtAxt, um das HolzHolz abzuhauen, und das EisenEisen fährt vom StieleStiele und trifft seinen Nächsten, daß er stirbt: der soll in eine dieser Städte fliehen, damit er am LebenLeben bleibe;
6 lest the avenger of blood pursue the manslayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and smite him mortally; whereas he was not worthy of death, since he hated him not previously.6 auf daß nicht der BluträcherBluträcher, weil sein HerzHerz entbrannt ist, dem Totschläger nachsetze und ihn erreiche, weil der Weg lang ist, und ihn totschlage, obwohl ihm kein Todesurteil gebührt, da er ihn vordem nicht haßte.
7 Therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thyself.7 Darum gebiete ich dir und sage: drei Städte sollst du dir aussondern. -
8 And if Jehovah thy God enlarge thy border, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers8 Und wenn JehovaJehova, dein GottGott, deine Grenzen erweitert, so wie er deinen VäternVätern geschworen hat, und dir das ganze Land gibt, welches er deinen VäternVätern zu geben verheißen3 hat,
9 (if thou keep all this commandment to do it, which I command thee this day, to love Jehovah thy God, and to walk in his ways continually), then shalt thou add three cities more for thyself to these three,9 (wenn du darauf achtest, dieses ganze Gebot zu tun, das ich dir heute gebiete, indem du JehovaJehova, deinen GottGott, liebst und auf seinen Wegen wandelst alle TageTage) so sollst du dir zu diesen dreien noch drei Städte hinzufügen;
10 that innocent blood be not shed in the midst of thy land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and blood come not upon thee.10 damit nicht unschuldiges BlutBlut vergossen werde inmitten deines Landes, das JehovaJehova, dein GottGott, dir als ErbteilErbteil gibt, und Blutschuld auf dir sei. -
11 But if a man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and he flee into one of these cities,11 Wenn aber ein MannMann seinen Nächsten haßt, und ihm auflauert und sich wider ihn erhebt und ihn totschlägt, so daß er stirbt, und er flieht in eine dieser Städte:
12 then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.12 so sollen die Ältesten seiner Stadt hinsenden und ihn von dannen holen lassen und ihn in die Hand des BluträchersBluträchers liefern, daß er sterbe.
13 Thine eye shall not spare him; and thou shalt put away innocent blood from Israel, that it may be well with thee.13 Dein Auge soll seiner nicht schonen; und du sollst das unschuldige BlutBlut aus IsraelIsrael hinwegschaffen, und es wird dir wohlgehen.
14 Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's landmark, which they of old time have fixed in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess.14 Du sollst nicht die Grenze deines Nächsten verrücken, welche die Vorfahren in deinem ErbteilErbteil gesetzt haben, das du erben wirst in dem Lande, welches JehovaJehova, dein GottGott, dir gibt, es zu besitzen.
15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, and for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall a matter be established.15 Ein einzelner Zeuge soll nicht wider jemand auftreten wegen irgend einer Ungerechtigkeit und wegen irgend einer SündeSünde, bei irgend einer SündeSünde, die er4 begeht; auf zweier Zeugen Aussage oder auf dreier Zeugen Aussage soll eine Sache bestätigt werden. -
16 If an unrighteous witness rise up against any man to testify against him of an offence;16 Wenn ein ungerechter Zeuge wider jemand auftritt, um ein Vergehen5 wider ihn zu bezeugen,
17 then both the men between whom the controversy is shall stand before Jehovah, before the priests and the judges that shall be in those days;17 so sollen die beiden Männer, die den Hader haben, vor JehovaJehova treten, vor die PriesterPriester und die RichterRichter, die in jenen Tagen sein werden.
18 and the judges shall make thorough inquiry; and if the witness be a false witness, and he have testified falsely against his brother,18 Und die RichterRichter sollen wohl nachforschen; und siehe, ist der Zeuge ein falscher Zeuge, hat er Falsches wider seinen BruderBruder bezeugt,
19 then shall ye do unto him as he had thought to have done unto his brother; and thou shalt put evil away from thy midst.19 so sollt ihr ihm tun, wie er seinem BruderBruder zu tun gedachte; und du sollst das Böse aus deiner Mitte hinwegschaffen.
20 And those that remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil in thy midst.20 Und die Übrigen sollen es hören und sich fürchten und fortan nicht mehr eine solche Übeltat in deiner Mitte begehen.
21 And thine eye shall not spare: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.21 Und dein Auge soll nicht schonen: LebenLeben um LebenLeben, Auge um Auge, Zahn um Zahn, Hand um Hand, Fuß um Fuß!
