1 Elihu453 spake6030 moreover, and said559, 2 Thinkest2803 thou this to be right4941, that thou saidst559, My righteousness6664 is more than God's410? 3 For thou saidst559, What advantage5532 will it be unto thee? and, What profit3276 shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin2403?¹ 4 I will answer7725 4405 thee, and thy companions7453 with thee.² 5 Look5027 unto the heavens8064, and see7200; and behold7789 the clouds7834 which are higher1361 than thou. 6 If thou sinnest2398, what doest6466 thou against him? or if thy transgressions6588 be multiplied7231, what doest6213 thou unto him? 7 If thou be righteous6663, what givest5414 thou him? or what receiveth3947 he of thine hand3027? 8 Thy wickedness7562 may hurt a man376 as thou art; and thy righteousness6666 may profit the son1121 of man120.

9 By reason of the multitude7230 of oppressions6217 they make the oppressed to cry2199: they cry out7768 by reason of the arm2220 of the mighty7227. 10 But none saith559, Where is God433 my maker6213, who giveth5414 songs2158 in the night3915; 11 Who teacheth502 us more than the beasts929 of the earth776, and maketh us wiser2449 than the fowls5775 of heaven8064? 12 There they cry6817, but none giveth answer6030, because6440 of the pride1347 of evil men7451. 13 Surely God410 will not hear8085 vanity7723, neither will the Almighty7706 regard7789 it.

14 Although637 thou sayest559 thou shalt not see7789 him, yet judgment1779 is before6440 him; therefore trust2342 thou in him. 15 But now, because it is not so, he hath visited6485 in his anger639; yet he knoweth3045 it not in great3966 extremity6580:³⁴ 16 Therefore doth Job347 open6475 his mouth6310 in vain1892; he multiplieth3527 words4405 without1097 knowledge1847.
