1 So these three7969 men582 ceased7673 to answer6030 Job347, because he was righteous6662 in his own eyes5869.¹ 2 Then was kindled2734 the wrath639 of Elihu453 the son1121 of Barachel1292 the Buzite940, of the kindred4940 of Ram7410: against Job347 was his wrath639 kindled2734, because he justified6663 himself5315 rather than God430.² 3 Also against his three7969 friends7453 was his wrath639 kindled2734, because they had found4672 no answer4617, and yet had condemned7561 Job347. 4 Now Elihu453 had waited2442 till Job347 had spoken1697, because they were elder2205 3117 than he.³⁴ 5 When Elihu453 saw7200 that there was no answer4617 in the mouth6310 of these three7969 men582, then his wrath639 was kindled2734.

6 And Elihu453 the son1121 of Barachel1292 the Buzite940 answered6030 and said559, I am young6810 3117, and ye are very old3453; wherefore I was afraid2119, and durst3372 not shew2331 you mine opinion1843.⁵⁶ 7 I said559, Days3117 should speak1696, and multitude7230 of years8141 should teach3045 wisdom2451. 8 But403 there is a spirit7307 in man582: and the inspiration5397 of the Almighty7706 giveth them understanding995. 9 Great men7227 are not always wise2449: neither do the aged2205 understand995 judgment4941. 10 Therefore I said559, Hearken8085 to me; I also will shew2331 mine opinion1843. 11 Behold, I waited3176 for your words1697; I gave ear238 to your reasons8394, whilst ye searched out2713 what to say4405.⁷⁸ 12 Yea, I attended995 unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced3198 Job347, or that answered6030 his words561: 13 Lest ye should say559, We have found out4672 wisdom2451: God410 thrusteth him down5086, not man376. 14 Now he hath not directed6186 his words4405 against me: neither will I answer7725 him with your speeches561.⁹
